The Gilded Griffin

The Gilded Griffin began as a way-station built by a retired caravan master named Edrin Solmont twenty years ago. Edrin's tavern catered to merchants and wandering sellswords along the Amber Road. Ten years ago a young ex-adventurer named Marla Dorr took over, refitting the common room to welcome small adventuring parties and adding the Adventurer's Chest and Loaner Gear Rack. Over time the tavern acquired a reputation as a neutral ground for deals, wagers, and hiring hands. Local law tends to look the other way for dice games so long as fights do not spill into the street.

History

Quirks

The tavern favors a house rule: the first roll at the gambling table each night is called 'the Griffin's Reckoning' and must be made with a fresh die supplied by the house. Marla keeps a small wooden token on the bar; any patron who returns it with a tale of a new venture is granted a free bowl of stew. The house cat, Patch, sleeps on the dice table and is said to bring luck to those who stroke his left ear before rolling.

Lore

Rumor says an old stone marker from the Amber Road lies under the tavern cellar and that Edrin once bartered with a caravan of dwarves for a sealed keg that never leaves the cellar. Some say the keg was offered in thanks for sheltering a wounded dwarf scout long ago. Bardic snippets mention the Gilded Griffin as a place where fledgling heroes find their first true challenge and their first true coin.
