The Anvil & Ale

The Anvil & Ale was carved into an old merchant foundation during the city's second expansion seventy years ago by the founder of the Ironbelt line. It began as a rest-stop for miners and traders moving ore from the eastern pits. Over decades it became a civic meeting place where claim disputes were hashed out and songs were forged as firmly as metal. The hearth once hosted a treaty signing after the Rockfall Wars; the scorch marks remain as a reminder.

History

The Anvil & Ale was carved into an old merchant foundation during the city's second expansion seventy years ago by the founder of the Ironbelt line. It began as a rest-stop for miners and traders moving ore from the eastern pits. Over decades it became a civic meeting place where claim disputes were hashed out and songs were forged as firmly as metal. The hearth once hosted a treaty signing after the Rockfall Wars; the scorch marks remain as a reminder.

Quirks

The tavern's hearth is never fully cold; patrons sometimes find a small hand-forged token tucked into their cup (a good-luck bit in dwarven superstition). Dice games are allowed only on odd-numbered days according to the in-house runic calendar, and the barkeep cuts off singing when the hearth kicks sparks higher than a man's hat.

Lore

Local dwarven lore holds that the anvil table in the center contains a shard of the first forge-stone brought from the mountain heart. Superstition claims that as long as the hearth is tended and the anvil used, the Forge-song — a faint hum beneath the city — keeps the tunnels stable. Old songs say the tavern's tokens can guide a lost miner to safety, but only if the holder returns a favor to the house.
