The Shadowed Hearth

Originally built as a modest waystation on an old smuggler’s route, The Shadowed Hearth earned its name during a long winter when a mysterious fire decimated nearby villages but spared the inn. Over time, it became a haven for those who preferred the night and shadows — fugitives, spies, and seekers of forbidden knowledge.

History

Originally built as a modest waystation on an old smuggler’s route, The Shadowed Hearth earned its name during a long winter when a mysterious fire decimated nearby villages but spared the inn. Over time, it became a haven for those who preferred the night and shadows — fugitives, spies, and seekers of forbidden knowledge.

Quirks

All candles and lanterns are fitted with thick, smoky glass which dims their light, creating deep shadows even where light is present. Marrek never serves patrons who arrive alone late at night without a reference or coin upfront.

Lore

Local legend claims the tavern’s stone hearth contains a slumbering fire spirit bound centuries ago by a dark mage. The blue flames seen on rare occasions are said to be the spirit’s restless murmurs, warning of coming misfortune or favoring those it deems worthy.
