The Cog & Gear

The Cog & Gear began as a wagon repair shop near the market square, founded fifteen years ago by a traveling tinkerer named Jorrim Gearwright. As artificer craft prospered in the city, Maera—Jorrim's former apprentice—bought the place, converted the repair bays into a public room, and added automaton servers to showcase her inventiveness. Over the years the tavern became a waypoint for tradesfolk, mercenaries, and inventors seeking parts or gossip.

History

The Cog & Gear began as a wagon repair shop near the market square, founded fifteen years ago by a traveling tinkerer named Jorrim Gearwright. As artificer craft prospered in the city, Maera—Jorrim's former apprentice—bought the place, converted the repair bays into a public room, and added automaton servers to showcase her inventiveness. Over the years the tavern became a waypoint for tradesfolk, mercenaries, and inventors seeking parts or gossip.

Quirks

All plates and cups have a tiny stamped serial number. If a plate 'goes missing', Maera's ledger-automaton chirps and the patron is reminded politely. The automatons occasionally pick up small loose change and drop it into the tip box without human prompting.

Lore

Local craftsmen tell a whispered story that an old clockwork blueprint tucked into Jorrim's ledger maps the location of a sealed forgemaster's vault beneath the city. The brass emblem on the tavern's bread was once the mark of a guild that vanished after a great quarrel between magic and mechanism. Some say the automatons contain salvaged bits from that guild's machines—hence the occasional faint hum of latent enchantment.
