Quirks

Marta pins a small scrap of parchment above the hearth every morning with a ‘Question of the Day’ (often a silly riddle or superstitious advice). Locals swap answers and wagers on it. The inn cat, Nibs, 'approves' of patrons by curling in their lap — if Nibs ignores someone, villagers take it as a sign to be wary.

Lore

Local superstition holds that the hedge behind the inn was planted from a cutting taken from a sacred hedge in the valley centuries ago; passing through its arch is said to bring safe travel for a day. Older villagers still set out a saucer of milk for the hedge's spirits on the eve of harvest. Marta maintains a small brass charm above the cellar door—an old Bramble family token—claimed to ward off blights and misfortune, though the charm's origin is a matter of friendly debate among patrons.
