The Harborleaf

The Harborleaf was founded three generations ago by a traveling halfling pair who turned an abandoned cargo lighter into a tavern. As Summergrove grew from a handful of fishing families into the largest halfling trading port on this stretch of coast, the Harborleaf expanded outward, adding the present quay and the timbered hall. It has long been a waypoint for coastal traders, a meeting place for local guilds and, quietly, a crossroads for goods that arrive under the moon.

History

The Harborleaf was founded three generations ago by a traveling halfling pair who turned an abandoned cargo lighter into a tavern. As Summergrove grew from a handful of fishing families into the largest halfling trading port on this stretch of coast, the Harborleaf expanded outward, adding the present quay and the timbered hall. It has long been a waypoint for coastal traders, a meeting place for local guilds and, quietly, a crossroads for goods that arrive under the moon.

Quirks

The Harborleaf rings a carved conch shell three times at dusk, after which prices for plain bread are often halved until the last song. Patrons who find a green seeding bead sewn inside their cloak are considered lucky and receive a free harbor roll. Lysa's singing tends to pull stories out of even the tight-lipped, and the house cat named Puddle insists on inspecting the contents of any new arrival's pockets.

Lore

Halfling storytellers say the tavern sits where a luckstone slipped from a traveling trader's pocket once struck the keel of the original lighter, blessing the site with steadier tides and fuller nets. The Harborleaf is also known among local mariners as a place where the goddess of home and harvest is honored in small ways, with a bowl of salted cake left at the bar during harvest tide. Visiting folk sometimes confuse Summergrove with 'small hamlet port cities' of larger races, but halfling records show Summergrove's trade routes reach farther than most outsiders suspect.
