The Hearth & Habet

Built thirty years ago by a retired caravan master, The Hearth & Habet began as a single-room waystation for traders. Over the decades it expanded into a small inn as the road grew safer and a village formed nearby. Marta inherited the tavern five winters ago after the previous keeper fell ill and entrusted her with the faded merchant's banner.

History

Built thirty years ago by a retired caravan master, The Hearth & Habet began as a single-room waystation for traders. Over the decades it expanded into a small inn as the road grew safer and a village formed nearby. Marta inherited the tavern five winters ago after the previous keeper fell ill and entrusted her with the faded merchant's banner.

Quirks

The inn's cat, Brim, collects small trinkets and leaves them in a corner mat each morning. Patrons sometimes wager on what Brim will present next. Marta hums an old caravan chant when the stew is nearly done — locals take it as a sign the meal will be good.

Lore

Locals say the inn sits on the edge of an old drover's path that once linked three distant market towns. Superstition holds that when a new moon coincides with the mist off the nearby stream, the path hums and stray livestock return home on their own. Travelers sometimes leave small offerings in the storm cellar for safe passage; whether out of piety or habit, those who do report warmer fires and calm weather for a few days after.
