The Gossamer Tankard

The Gossamer Tankard was opened twenty years ago by Pip's mentor, a halfling brewer named Dori Underleaf, who wanted a place where the capital's halflings and gnomes could unwind and swap trinkets. As Dandrimad expanded, the Tankard carved out a niche mixing blue-collar revelry with small magics: light concessions from the Arcane Annex allowed the enchanted lanterns and the Spellbath to be installed. After Dori passed the keys to Pip, the tavern leaned further into performance and tinkering-friendly hospitality, attracting guild meetings and late-night experiments. Conflicts have been settled in song contests as often as by coin, and the tavern's basement once housed a short-lived refuge for refugees of the Eastern Wells — remnants of that night still hum underfoot.

Quirks

Mugs occasionally hum in chorus when a popular tavern song is played. The curtains in the private booths sometimes rearrange themselves to eavesdrop better. Regulars toss a copper into the Glimmerboard to watch fresh rumors bloom.

Lore

In Gwledd, halflings and gnomes trace many of their finer arcane customs to a mutual reverence for 'small wonders' — the kind of magic that repairs clocks, sweetens bread, or hums in a child's pocket. Dandrimad's Market Spire is known for fairs where pocket-sized marvels sell for a copper or a favor. Rumor holds that the Tankard's location was chosen deliberately: a thin place in the city's weave where the fae and the practical world come close. Old-timers tell of a pact struck long ago between a halfling brewer and a whimsical fae who traded a secret strain of yeast for nightly songs; the yeast is said to be a distant ancestor of Pip's moon-malt. The tavern's Glimmerboard is whispered to borrow a scrap of that pact's magic, which is why certain notices 'bloom' when fed coin.
