The Zodiac's Cup

The Zodiac's Cup began as a watchman's lodge built after a brilliant meteor shower some thirty years ago. The original owner, a traveling chartmaker who claimed to have mapped a new star, painted zodiac sigils on the beams and hung a brass astrolabe above the hearth. Over time the lodge grew into a rowdy tavern frequented by sailors, caravan guards, and fortune-seekers. The astrolabe remains mounted above the bar. The tavern earned its reputation after a long winter when the owner kept the area fed and warm, and since then folk from nearby villages have treated it as a place where fortunes are told and tempers tested.

History

Quirks

Every mug is stamped with one of the twelve zodiac sigils. Patrons often rub their cup's symbol for luck before a dice roll. The tavern bell rings once for a new dawn and twice when a brawl is permitted under house rules. The staff keeps a jar labeled 'For the Stars' where patrons drop odd coins; once a month the jar is used to fund Yara's roof vigils. The tavern cat, Patches, steals star-shaped trinkets and hides them in the cellar, much to the seer's annoyance.

Lore

Locals believe each zodiac sigil painted in the tavern carries a sliver of luck tied to the season it represents. Sailors and merchants stop by to touch a sign before departure, and many claim a tavern-born charm can turn a failed dice roll into a narrow win. Old stargazers tell a half-true tale of the twelfth tile, lost in a brawl years ago, that once aligned with the brass astrolabe to reveal a safe path through the moor mists on certain nights. Whether that is superstition or secret knowledge depends on whom you ask.
