The Raven's Quill

Built on the edge of the old harbor ten years ago by a disgraced sea captain, the tavern gained a reputation for being a place where coins change hands fast and questions are best left unasked. It survived one arson attempt after a smuggling ring was exposed and was rebuilt with iron fittings and a reinforced cellar. Over time it absorbed the personality of the neighborhood: loud, suspicious, and loyal to those who can pay their tab. Rumor says a small shrine to a forgotten patron was walled up during reconstruction and that some nights the floor seems to listen.

History

Built on the edge of the old harbor ten years ago by a disgraced sea captain, the tavern gained a reputation for being a place where coins change hands fast and questions are best left unasked. It survived one arson attempt after a smuggling ring was exposed and was rebuilt with iron fittings and a reinforced cellar. Over time it absorbed the personality of the neighborhood: loud, suspicious, and loyal to those who can pay their tab. Rumor says a small shrine to a forgotten patron was walled up during reconstruction and that some nights the floor seems to listen.

Quirks

The tavern's candles sometimes burn blue around certain patrons, and a single black raven ironwork above the hearth is polished nightly though no one claims to clean it. Patrons often leave a coin with a small ribbon tied to it beneath a loose floorboard as a 'favor coin' that can be called upon in emergencies. The tavern hums a particular three-note chant between closing and dawn that few outsiders notice but that seems to settle the tempers of those who know it.

Lore

Locals call the place the Raven's Quill for the soot-stained raven emblem painted above the door. Superstitious whispers tie the emblem to a maritime cult that once worshiped a goddess of secrets and lost things. Some older patrons insist the tavern sits atop a shallow seam of restless ground where folk have buried debts, trinkets, and grudges. The tavern's house song is said to 'mark' those who listen with too much attention: they will be remembered by strangers who hear the melody elsewhere.
