The Hollow Thistle

The Hollow Thistle was founded two decades ago by Meren Thistlebrook and his late partner, a traveling vintner. They converted a ruined hunting lodge and coaxed two living oak trunks into support for the roof. Word of mouth among rangers and druidic circles made it a safe haven for those who travel the deeper paths. Over time the tavern became a waypoint between isolated hamlets and a clandestine meeting place for a loose network of scouts. Recent years have seen more travelers in search of rare herbs and rumors of shifting forest borders.

History

The Hollow Thistle was founded two decades ago by Meren Thistlebrook and his late partner, a traveling vintner. They converted a ruined hunting lodge and coaxed two living oak trunks into support for the roof. Word of mouth among rangers and druidic circles made it a safe haven for those who travel the deeper paths. Over time the tavern became a waypoint between isolated hamlets and a clandestine meeting place for a loose network of scouts. Recent years have seen more travelers in search of rare herbs and rumors of shifting forest borders.

Quirks

Wind chimes made of bone and acorn shells tinkle whether there is wind or not; occasionally the chimes play a different pattern at moonrise when a patron makes a secret wish. Tables have faint carved initials that rearrange themselves over months. Patrons traditionally leave an extra portion of bread on the sill for stray animals and small fey; those who ignore this custom may find their ale slightly sour for the night.

Lore

The Hollow Thistle sits where two minor ley lines brush the surface and where an old druidic watch-post once tended the wood. The trees around the tavern are slightly older and wiser than normal, and some claim to hear whispered advice in the leaves if you sit very still. The herbalist's sachets are reputed to have components grown from seedlings grafted onto the watch-post roots. There is no single deity worshiped openly here; gratitude is given to the wood itself and the spirits that guard travelers. The tavern's name comes from a cluster of hardy thistles that bloom every autumn in a circle around the well, said to mark the site of a bargain made by the original owners and a sleeping forest spirit.
