The Octant Lantern
The Octant Lantern opened two decades ago when Maris Vell bought a shuttered plaza house and rebuilt the balcony that now faces Harrowcross square. It started as a small alehouse for market workers and grew when travelers discovered its nightly darts games and the lanterns that somehow always kept the square lit even in stormy weather. Over the years it became a crossroads for gossip and deals: smugglers used the stables, bards found paying audiences, and local officials came to watch public sentiment take shape under the lantern glow. Several minor skirmishes have spilled out from its doors, but Maris's steady hand and a few well-placed friends have kept the tavern mostly out of the worst of Harrowcross's politics.
