Muddy wagon ruts define the main street where prospectors and traders gather to seek their fortunes. The town lacks a wall, appearing vulnerable against the vast wilderness of the Sword Mountains. Smoke rises from stone chimneys while the sounds of hammers and pickaxes echo from the nearby hills.

Phandalin was once a prosperous human and gnomish center before being destroyed by an orc horde five centuries ago. The town lay in ruins for hundreds of years until settlers from Neverwinter and Waterdeep arrived to rebuild. These pioneers scavenge ancient stones to forge a new future, hoping to rediscover the legendary riches of the Phandelver Pact and the Wave Echo Cave.
