Appearance
Nocc is a powerfully built female orc with deep green-gray skin, a broad frame, and dark hair worn in a long, uneven braid threaded with bits of bone and colored cord. She stands with her weight balanced on the balls of her feet, as if every quiet moment might become a chase or a fight. When waiting, she leans slightly forward and takes up more space than she realizes, planting her greataxe beside her like a walking staff. Her amber eyes are alert and amused, and her tusks show prominently whenever she smiles. She wears worn hide armor pieces over practical travel clothes, with a red wool sash tied around her waist and a collection of small animal tokens hanging from her belt.
Mannerisms
Nocc crouches slightly when listening, keeps one hand resting near her axe, and turns her whole body toward anyone who speaks instead of merely looking at them. She tests unfamiliar food by smelling it first, taps her tusk when thinking, and laughs under her breath whenever someone gives an order she did not ask for.
Personality
Nocc is direct, observant, and restless. She speaks plainly, prefers practical demonstrations to explanations, and has a dry sense of humor that often arrives at the worst possible moment. She is generous with food, fiercely protective of companions who prove dependable, and fascinated by the strange customs of settled people. She enjoys testing herself against difficult terrain, intimidating opponents, and problems that everyone else considers too complicated.
Ideals
Freedom. No wall, law, chief, or prophecy has the right to decide where a person may walk or what they must become.
Bonds
Nocc carries her mother's carved antler token and intends to return it only after she has found a safe new homeland for her scattered kin. She feels responsible for anyone who travels under her guidance, even when she pretends otherwise.
Flaws
Nocc mistakes hesitation for cowardice and often acts before she has heard the full plan. She is suspicious of comfortable people, easily provoked by insults toward her kin, and has a habit of treating promises as challenges that must be tested.
Quirks
Background
Nocc was born among an orc hunting band that followed migrating herds across harsh valleys and open scrubland. She learned early that survival was not only a matter of strength. It depended on reading wind, remembering water holes, recognizing which birds went silent when predators were near, and knowing when to leave before a place became dangerous. Her mother taught her to track by broken grass and displaced stones, while her older cousins taught her to fight with a heavy axe. Nocc became known for charging too soon, laughing too loudly, and returning with enough meat for everyone even when the hunt had gone badly. When a winter migration led her band into conflict with a fortified settlement, Nocc refused to abandon a group of young hunters trapped beyond the settlement's walls. She broke through the gate during a storm, brought them home, and discovered that the settlement's leaders had been preparing to attack her people regardless of what she did. Rather than remain for the coming retaliation, Nocc left with a few supplies, her mother's old hunting token, and a fierce curiosity about the wider world. She now travels as a guide, scout, and sellsword. She seeks danger partly for coin and partly because every road teaches her something new. Civilization still confuses her, but she has begun to suspect that the most dangerous predators do not always have claws.
“She learned early that survival was not only a matter of strength.”
