Appearance
A lean male Tabaxi with warm tawny fur, rounded ears, a cream-colored muzzle, and dark russet stripes across his shoulders and tail. His green-gold eyes are bright with perpetual amusement. He wears a weathered scholar's robe over practical traveling clothes, with ink-stained fingers, a satchel full of notes, and a polished wooden quarterstaff etched with small spirals.
Mannerisms
He flicks the tip of his tail whenever he is lying, taps rhythms against his quarterstaff while thinking, and tilts his head with exaggerated innocence before delivering an especially pointed joke.
Personality
Muruq is curious, quick-witted, and relentlessly playful. He enjoys baiting pompous people into revealing their ignorance, but his teasing is usually aimed upward at bullies, tyrants, and self-important experts. Beneath the jokes, he is attentive to frightened companions and becomes unexpectedly serious when someone is denied access to knowledge or treated as disposable.
Ideals
Knowledge should be free. Anyone who hoards understanding behind arrogance, rank, or obscure passwords deserves to be outwitted.
Bonds
He carries the first page of his family's unfinished masterwork, a collection of lost languages that disappeared when their caravan was attacked. He intends to recover the missing pages and complete it in their honor.
Flaws
He cannot resist correcting someone publicly, especially when the correction is technically unnecessary. He often underestimates danger because making a joke feels easier than admitting fear.
Quirks
Background
Muruq grew up among caravans, libraries, and shrine markets, where his family earned coin by copying maps and translating old inscriptions. He had an unnerving memory for symbols and an even stronger instinct for finding the one question that made a pompous scholar stumble. His habit of answering serious lectures with technically correct but deliberately ridiculous observations earned him a reputation as both an irritating student and an unusually gifted one. His sorcery first appeared when he tried to demonstrate that a famous archmage's protective formula was needlessly complicated. The spell collapsed, flared blue-white, and transformed half a lecture hall's furniture into harmless floating cushions. Rather than being expelled, Muruq was recruited to investigate the magical anomaly. He now travels as a wandering researcher, collecting fragments of lost lore, testing his unpredictable power, and cheerfully humiliating anyone who mistakes authority for wisdom.
