When you hit a target with a weapon, you can roll the weapon's damage dice twice and use either result. This applies once per turn.

You know the secret language of druids and can leave hidden messages. You always have Speak with Animals prepared. Creatures that know Druidic automatically notice your hidden Druidic messages. Appearance
Keres is a lean, broad-shouldered male aarakocra with rust-red and ochre feathers, a dark iron beak, and long legs built for highland travel. His wing feathers are carefully trimmed at the tips from years of military service, not enough to hinder flight but enough to keep them from snagging on brush or harness straps. His hands are unusually strong and rough for a birdfolk, with thickened palms and blunt, worn talons from spear drills, leatherwork, and hauling field gear. He keeps his plumage clean but practical, brushing it each morning with a small bone comb and tying three faded green threads around his left wrist, one for each soldier who once shared his watch post.
Mannerisms
Keres checks the wind before answering difficult questions. When standing still, he subtly shifts his weight as though balancing on a narrow branch. He cleans his beak with a small strip of polished bone after meals and performs silent spear forms whenever he is forced to wait.
Personality
Keres is restrained, observant, and more comfortable with practical work than conversation. He speaks plainly, rarely wastes food or words, and treats promises as tools that must be maintained. Around animals he becomes noticeably gentler, lowering his voice and giving them room to choose whether to approach. Among soldiers he is steady and companionable, though he often shows affection by repairing straps, sharpening blades, or silently taking the coldest watch.
Ideals
Balance. The forest, the battlefield, the flock, and the lone traveler all have a place. No force should rule forever, and no life should be discarded merely because it is inconvenient.
Bonds
The three faded green threads on his wrist represent soldiers who died during the winter withdrawal. Keres refuses to let their names be forgotten, and he will risk himself to protect isolated patrols, caravans, and small settlements abandoned by larger powers.
Flaws
Keres mistakes endurance for virtue. He pushes through pain, hunger, and exhaustion long after retreat would be wiser, then becomes quietly resentful when others cannot match his standards. He also has little patience for scholars who discuss nature without ever sleeping outdoors or carrying a wounded companion.
Quirks
Background
Keres was raised in a wind-cut aarakocra outpost above the tree line, where every child learned to read weather, hold a landing against crosswinds, and carry messages between distant roosts. He joined a ground patrol rather than the messenger flights, partly because he was strong enough to bear a shield and partly because he disliked being treated as fragile whenever his wings were folded. In the army, he became a reliable spear carrier and camp sentry. He was not a gifted strategist, but he could remember every trail, water source, and animal track around a marching route. During a winter withdrawal, Keres found a grove burned by careless soldiers who had used it for firewood. Beneath the ash, he discovered a living root wrapped around a piece of carved stone marked in Druidic. An old druid named Vardze taught him that nature was not gentle, but it was exact, and that survival depended on respecting what could not be commanded. Keres left military service with his spear, shield, and a practical knowledge of primal magic. He now travels as a druid who sees no contradiction between discipline and wildness. Both are ways of keeping something alive.
“In the army, he became a reliable spear carrier and camp sentry.”
