Appearance
Karadius is a tall, broad-shouldered tiefling with deep umber-red skin, swept-back black horns polished at their ridges, and a long tail wrapped with three small brass devotional rings. He keeps his dark hair tied in a severe knot and maintains his pointed beard with almost clerical precision. Within a minute of meeting someone, he is likely to notice every doorway, window, and weapon in the room before he looks directly at their face. His clothing combines an austere acolyte's layered robes with a black leather warlock's mantle, both marked with careful geometric sigils in dull gold. His expression is controlled and his voice is low, formal, and exact, even when invoking destructive magic.
Mannerisms
He pauses before answering difficult questions to arrange his thoughts into numbered points. When entering a room, he silently counts exits and likely lines of attack. He cleans his spectacles, even when they are already spotless, whenever someone makes an emotional argument.
Personality
Karadius is composed, observant, and unfailingly formal. He prefers clear procedures to improvisation and believes that even dangerous supernatural forces can be managed if their rules are understood. Beneath his severity is a guarded compassion for outsiders, especially those judged solely by their ancestry or appearance. He does not comfort people with easy promises. Instead, he tells them exactly what he can do, then does it.
Ideals
Order. Laws exist to restrain power, and power without enforceable limits eventually becomes tyranny. A fair rule is better than a kind impulse that cannot be applied consistently.
Bonds
He is bound to the temple archive where he was raised, and he will risk his life to recover any sacred or historical text stolen from it. He also intends to discover whether his patron manipulated the temple into hiding the contract.
Flaws
He treats every promise as a binding contract, even when mercy or common sense would call for flexibility. He is slow to forgive imprecision, quick to suspect hidden motives, and genuinely afraid that his own judgment has become indistinguishable from his patron's instructions.

Background
Karadius was raised in a temple archive where the priests believed that order was the first defense against the chaos of the outer planes. His infernal appearance made him an object of suspicion, but his extraordinary memory and disciplined habits earned him a place copying liturgies, cataloging relics, and tending the sealed vault beneath the sanctuary. He learned early that people trusted a precise record more readily than a reassuring smile, so he became the temple's quietest and most relentless keeper of forbidden histories. His life changed when he discovered a damaged invocation hidden inside a confiscated manuscript. The text was not a prayer, but a contract, and something on the other side answered when he restored its missing clauses. The entity called itself the Keeper Below the Last Door, a calculating fiend that offered power in exchange for service and exact obedience to the terms of their pact. Karadius accepted, believing that a lawful bargain was safer than an uncontrolled haunting. He now travels as an acolyte, investigator, and occult enforcer, seeking breaches of sacred law while quietly searching for the original purpose of the pact and the identity of the temple official who tried to erase it.
