Appearance
Seshan is a broad-shouldered warforged plated in muted blue-gray steel, with narrow silver seams at his joints and a face shaped into calm, humanlike features. Pale green light glows behind the lenses of his eyes. A faded red wool scarf is wrapped twice around his neck, its lower edge polished smooth from years of being caught beneath his breastplate. He wears chain mail beneath a scarred surcoat bearing no nation’s emblem. He stands very still when listening, but his size and rigid posture make him occupy more space than he realizes.
Mannerisms
Seshan turns his entire upper body toward whoever is speaking, then remains motionless until they finish. Before making a difficult decision, he presses two fingers against the worn edge of his scarf as if checking a pulse.
Personality
Seshan is patient, observant, and quietly compassionate. He asks practical questions before offering comfort, remembers the names of ordinary workers, and dislikes theatrical displays of heroism. He has a dry sense of humor that appears without warning, usually in the form of an overly literal response. Around frightened people, he deliberately lowers himself to one knee so that his height and armor feel less imposing.
Ideals
Chosen Duty. A promise has value only when it is freely made. I will protect the vulnerable because I decide to, not because someone built me to obey.
Bonds
The red scarf was given to him by the first person who treated him as a person rather than military property. He will protect its maker’s descendants, even if they no longer remember him.
Flaws
He treats uncertainty as a failure of discipline and may follow a harmful plan too long before admitting that it was wrong. He also distrusts anyone who gives orders casually, which can make him seem cold or insubordinate.
Quirks
Background
Seshan was assembled for a border war that ended before his unit reached the battlefield. His first memories are of rain striking storage-hall roofs, officers arguing over maps, and a quartermaster tying a red wool scarf around his neck so the new construct could be identified among identical bodies. The war ended, the contracts were dissolved, and Seshan was left with a body built for obedience but no living commander to obey. He spent years serving as a guard, caravan escort, and disaster worker, gradually learning that protection is more than standing between danger and the helpless. During a village flood, he held a collapsed mill gate in place long enough for eleven people to escape. A traveling priest later taught him that a vow could be chosen rather than issued. Seshan has now taken his first steps as a paladin, swearing to use his strength for those who have none, while quietly wondering whether a created being can possess a soul or whether a soul is simply what one does when no order remains to follow.
