Appearance
Scarsinger is a slender elf with silver-black hair worn long and usually braided with thin strips of copied parchment. A faint white scar crosses her throat like a line of chalk, the source of her name, and her green-gold eyes are always watchful, as if measuring the shape of every room. She dresses in practical scholar's robes layered over travel-worn boots, with ink stains on her fingers and a satchel crowded with scroll tubes, notes, and odd scraps of field research.
Mannerisms
She speaks only after a brief pause, as if arranging her words into a citation. When thinking, she taps two fingers lightly against her wrist, counting possibilities. She rarely raises her voice, but when she does it becomes suddenly precise and sharp.
Personality
Quiet, observant, and exacting, Scarsinger treats every conversation like a puzzle worth solving. She is courteous without being warm, patient without being indulgent, and she dislikes wasted motion in speech or action. Beneath that measured exterior is a stubborn curiosity that makes her follow strange clues long after everyone else has lost interest.
Ideals
Truth. Facts matter more than comfort, tradition, or reputation. Knowledge should be pursued carefully, but it should never be buried simply because it is inconvenient.
Bonds
She keeps every field note she has ever written, and would risk her life before letting her research be lost or altered. The scar on her throat reminds her of the colleague who died protecting her notes, and she intends to finish the work they began together.
Flaws
She trusts evidence more readily than people, even when people are trying to help. In moments of stress she becomes coldly obsessive, ignoring sleep, safety, and courtesy if a mystery feels close to resolution. She also has a quiet fear of being publicly wrong, which can make her defensive when her conclusions are challenged.
Quirks
Background
Scarsinger was not born to a battlefield or a court, but to a dim archive where old names went to outlive the people who carried them. As a young elf she showed an unnatural patience for catalogs, maps, and marginalia, lingering over forgotten histories long after other apprentices had drifted away. Her talent was not merely memory, but pattern, she heard echoes between symbols the way a musician hears harmonies. When she first learned minor cantrips, she treated them like instruments, testing each spell as though it were a note in a larger composition only she could hear. Her life changed when a scholarly dispute turned ugly, and a blade meant to silence a witness left the thin scar at her throat. She survived, but the incident taught her that knowledge is never as harmless as it seems. Since then she has traveled as a field sage, collecting living testimony instead of only dead texts, and learning to defend herself with wards, force, and careful geometry. She now seeks a lost magical tradition said to preserve voices in spellform, believing it may explain both her own gift and the unfinished question that has followed her since the knife touched skin. She is not driven by vengeance or charity, but by equilibrium, the quiet need to see what is true and let events settle where they must.
