Appearance
Ickit is a wiry human man with a hunched posture, sharp green eyes, and a narrow, twitching smile. His patchy brown hair is tied back with strips of stained cloth, while a patchy beard frames a face marked by old pox scars. He wears battered scale mail beneath a dark, oversized clerical coat, both covered in bottles, tubes, brass instruments, and handwritten labels. His shield bears a stylized black plague mark surrounded by tiny golden rays, and his holy symbol is kept inside a glass vial filled with cloudy liquid.
Mannerisms
Ickit constantly sniffs the air, taps his fingers against glass vials, and leans far too close when someone describes an injury. He speaks in rapid bursts, often whispering the names of toxins under his breath, then suddenly becomes solemn and gentle when treating the sick.
Personality
Ickit is excitable, morbidly curious, and intensely compassionate toward the sick, the poor, and anyone abandoned by respectable society. He treats poisons like treasured works of art and speaks about plagues with the enthusiasm of a scholar discussing rare gemstones. Although his methods are unsettling, he is quick to risk himself for others and becomes fiercely protective when someone is mocked for being weak or diseased.
Ideals
Knowledge should belong to everyone, especially the poor. If understanding a poison can save one life or prevent a thousand deaths, then no taboo should stand in the way of learning it.
Bonds
Ickit carries a glass vial containing a sample from the plague that destroyed his old neighborhood. He is determined to discover its origin and ensure no one can ever weaponize it against the poor again.
Flaws
Ickit cannot resist examining anything poisonous, diseased, or biologically unusual, even when doing so is dangerous or socially offensive. He is convinced that every plague has something to teach him, and he sometimes values an interesting specimen more highly than common sense.
Quirks
Background
Ickit grew up beneath the streets of a crowded human city, sleeping in abandoned cisterns and surviving by stealing scraps from apothecaries, plague houses, and wealthy physicians. While other urchins feared the stink of sickness, Ickit found it fascinating. He collected discarded bandages, studied the colors of infected wounds, and kept tiny jars of mold, venom, and strange fluids beneath his bedroll. To him, disease was not merely misery. It was a hidden language written by nature, a force that could kill, transform, or sometimes be understood. His life changed during an outbreak that swept through the poorest districts. Ickit entered a sealed temple to steal medicine, but instead found its dying priest praying over victims no one else would touch. The priest taught him that death was not an enemy to worship, but a truth that deserved honesty and careful study. Ickit became an acolyte, learning to heal when he could, ease suffering when he could not, and confront those who used plagues to prey upon the helpless. He now travels with a collection of poisons and remedies, chasing rumors of unnatural outbreaks while seeking the perfect boundary between cure and contagion. His methods alarm respectable clerics, but his compassion is genuine, even when his bedside manner is absolutely horrifying.
