Appearance
Neríko is a lean, weather-browned human with wind-roughened cheeks and a fine dusting of pale grit that seems to linger at his cuffs. He smells faintly of lemon oil, old wood, and the sweat of a working performance. His clothes are practical but carefully mended, with bright stitched patches that catch the eye when he moves.
Mannerisms
He taps out rhythms with his thumb against the side of his instrument case, especially while listening. Before a performance, he takes a slow breath and quietly checks that everyone has somewhere to sit.
Personality
Warm, observant, and easy to draw into conversation, Neríko listens as carefully as he performs. He enjoys an audience but is happiest when a quiet listener joins in.
Ideals
Connection. A song can make a roomful of strangers into a community, if only for an evening.
Bonds
He keeps the first lute he ever played, repaired many times, and sends part of his earnings to the family who taught him that a shared meal matters more than a full purse.
Flaws
He will keep performing past the point of good sense if he thinks silence would make someone feel abandoned. He also takes criticism of his music more personally than he admits.
Quirks
Background
Neríko grew up among human laborers who cleared a steep hillside to make room for a road and a scattering of homes. His family worked in dust and hard wind, and he learned early how to turn the rhythm of shovels, carts, and shouted warnings into tunes. A battered lute left behind by a passing player became his first instrument. He taught himself to play by ear, performing for the workers at the end of long days in exchange for supper and a place near the fire. When the road opened, Neríko followed it, playing at roadside inns and village gatherings. He became an entertainer not because he craved applause, but because a good song could make strangers share a table and make tired people feel seen. He carries a small collection of songs gathered from travelers, and he changes the lyrics to suit whoever is listening. Now he is setting out beyond familiar roads, hoping to find stories worth bringing home, and to be useful when a tune alone cannot mend what has gone wrong.
