Appearance
A broad-shouldered Swedish human with wind-chapped skin, pale blond hair usually tied back in a practical knot, and a close-cropped beard. He wears a weathered soldier's harness over travel-stained clothes, with a scar across one eyebrow and knuckles hardened by years of shieldless brawling. Even at rest, he looks like a man preparing to throw himself between danger and a wall of people.
Mannerisms
He rolls his shoulders before danger, taps two fingers against the flat of his weapon when thinking, and unconsciously steps between strangers and open space. He speaks in short, steady sentences, but when he is worried his accent thickens and he starts using battlefield metaphors for everything.
Personality
Svann is fearless to the point of foolishness, but never careless about the lives of others. He is blunt, loyal, and quick to laugh after danger passes, as if daring death to follow through. He respects competence more than titles, and he is at his happiest when standing shoulder to shoulder with ordinary people who refuse to give in.
Ideals
Protection. Strength is meant to shield the weak, not dominate them. A warrior's duty is measured by who survives because you were there.
Bonds
He will never abandon a city, village, or gatehouse that is under attack if there is even a chance he can help hold it. He keeps a dented military token from his first captain, and he treats it as a sacred oath to protect the helpless.
Flaws
He treats his own safety as an afterthought and will step into obvious danger if he thinks others might be hurt without him. He struggles to trust leaders who stay behind the lines, and he has a habit of turning every warning into a challenge. When anger takes hold, his voice becomes a blade, and he can wound allies with the same blunt honesty he uses on enemies.
Quirks
Background
Svann Drakunhelm was born to a stonemason's widow in a hard northern port where the winters were long, the wages were short, and boys learned early that courage was often just another word for staying on your feet. He was too poor for a proper inheritance and too stubborn to vanish into the docks, so he joined the town militia as soon as he was old enough to hold a spear. He discovered quickly that fear did not leave him in battle, it sharpened him. The sight of civilians trapped behind crumbling walls or a street set ablaze by raiders always pulled him into the front line first and thinking later. Years of garrison duty and desperate street fighting honed Svann into a barbarian whose rage is less a loss of control than a promise. He fights like a man defending a bridge no one else can hold, throwing his body into danger with reckless, almost cheerful defiance. His comrades remember him not as a brute, but as the one who laughed loudest when the gate broke and still moved forward. He took the name Drakunhelm after surviving a siege by dragging a banner pole through fire and using it like a war-torch and a cudgel, swearing that if monsters wanted his city, they would have to chew through him first.
“He discovered quickly that fear did not leave him in battle, it sharpened him.”
