Appearance
Holg is a broad-shouldered half-orc with weathered green-gray skin, a blunt scar across one brow, and dark hair tied back with a strip of sailcloth. He wears practical seafaring gear beneath barbarian trappings, with shark-tooth tokens and rope knots dangling from his belt. His stance is relaxed until threatened, then suddenly feral and coiled like a storm breaking over open water.
Mannerisms
Holg speaks softly for a man his size, then laughs like breaking surf when amused. He checks knots, ropes, and exits almost unconsciously, and when thinking he drums his fingers on whatever wooden surface is nearest as if testing the deck.
Personality
Grim-looking at first glance, Holg is patient, loyal, and surprisingly gentle with children, sailors, and the wounded. He believes strength means keeping others safe, not merely winning fights, and he carries himself with the calm confidence of someone who has already survived worse than this.
Ideals
Freedom. The sea taught him that no one truly owns the world, and he fights to keep the weak from being chained by fear, debt, or cruelty.
Bonds
He keeps a splinter of wood from his first ship and swore to honor the crew that taught him how to survive. He is fiercely protective of sailors, laborers, and anyone trapped under the thumb of bullies or tyrants.
Flaws
Holg is quick to meet danger with his fists, even when caution would save time and lives. He struggles to trust polished officials and well-spoken nobles, assuming they are hiding a hook behind every smile.
Quirks
Background
Holg was born on the hard edges of a raiding coast where half-orcs were expected to be either muscle or misery, and he learned early that the sea cared little for prejudice. He signed onto a trading vessel as a deckhand, then survived storms, mutinies, and one memorable night when a pirate boarding action left him the last sailor standing on the main deck. The captain said Holg fought like a creature from the deep, all fury and momentum, and from that day on the crew stopped asking why he hit so hard and started asking where he wanted the enemy to be. Years at sea taught him discipline as much as violence. He learned to read waves, weather, and people, though he still prefers decisive action to careful speeches. Holg has since left the ship life behind for a broader purpose, traveling from port to port helping the vulnerable, breaking up slavers, and putting down threats that ordinary folk cannot face alone. He still keeps a piece of the first ship he loved, a splinter of blackened oak, and says the sea gave him his temper, but his crew gave him his heart.
“Years at sea taught him discipline as much as violence.”
