Appearance
A wiry kenku monk with soot-dark feathers, bright curious eyes, and a habit of tilting his head as if listening to echoes no one else can hear. He wears simple acolyte robes altered for movement, with prayer beads looped around one wrist and a weathered sash that holds a few darts and travel keepsakes. His posture is respectful but restless, like a pilgrim always halfway to the next horizon.
Mannerisms
Cashew often pauses before answering, as if choosing from a pile of borrowed phrases in his head. He speaks with careful rhythm, cocks his head toward sounds other people ignore, and punctuates serious moments with a soft click of his beak or a solemn nod. When thinking hard, he taps his prayer beads in sets of three.
Personality
Gentle, earnest, and a little bewildered by his own thoughts, Cashew treats every meeting like a small sacred appointment. He loves conversation, even when he does not know how to steer it, and he tends to answer questions with parables, metaphors, or borrowed sayings from temple lore. He is patient with the lost, kind to the wounded, and quietly determined to keep going no matter how strange the road becomes.
Ideals
Faith and compassion are only real if they move a person to action. Cashew believes every traveler deserves mercy, every road deserves respect, and every lost soul deserves someone willing to keep walking.
Bonds
Esmerelda is the center of Cashew's private prayers. He will cross any distance, endure any hardship, and ask any favor if it might lead him to her again. He also remains fiercely loyal to the shrine and teachers who gave him his first true discipline, and he believes Oulett'e has not finished guiding his feet.
Flaws
Cashew is painfully literal when he is nervous, and when words fail him he hides behind tangled metaphors that rarely answer the question asked. He trusts omens more easily than people, and when he becomes convinced that a path is divinely meant, he can be stubborn enough to walk straight into danger.

Background
Cashew was never the brightest voice in any flock, but the gods seemed to enjoy his persistence. Born among the scraps and sermons of a busy temple district, he learned early that wisdom could be borrowed, repeated, and polished until it shone. When the words of the goddess Oulett'e reached him, they struck with the force of a bell heard through fog. He did not fully understand her teachings at first, but he understood devotion, and so he became a monk, a listener, and a traveler of strange holy roads. His pilgrimage took him far from the temple steps and deep into the wide world, where he searched for the end of time before the Great Eastern Void had ever been dreamed into being. Along the way he met Esmerelda, a young girl with quick feet and quicker laughter who delighted in the way he spoke in metaphors and half-remembered echoes. She stayed with him for months, becoming his only true companion, a small bright star against the endless road. Then one morning she was simply gone. Cashew woke to an empty trail and a silence that felt louder than thunder. He still does not know whether she left, was taken, or followed some purpose he could not hear, but now every step of his pilgrimage carries a second vow, to find Esmerelda and bring his lost companion home.
