Appearance
Maeve is a six-foot-tall Human woman with a towering, battle-hardened build, broad shoulders, dense arms, and powerful legs. Her pale skin is marked by silvery scars, especially across her chest, forearms, and wrists, and her square-jawed face carries a crooked nose, a thin scar through her left eyebrow, and a sharp jade stare. She wears her crimson hair short and spiked, usually in practical modern clothes, dark tank tops, and loose training pants. A small silver ring hangs from a leather cord at her throat, and when she is at ease she is often barefoot, as if the ground itself is part of her discipline.
Mannerisms
Maeve speaks in concise, measured sentences, as if every word has been weighed before it is allowed to leave her mouth. When thinking, she taps two fingers against her silver ring or rolls a shoulder as though checking posture for parade drill. In conversation she stands squarely, rarely fidgets, and unconsciously scans exits, hands, and lines of sight.
Personality
Maeve is disciplined, watchful, and dryly humorous in the way of veterans who have seen too much to waste words. She is protective of the weak, fiercely competitive under pressure, and deeply patient with people who are trying to learn. She respects competence above status, keeps her promises with near-religious seriousness, and treats every room like a battlefield that can be won through awareness and preparation.
Ideals
Duty must be earned, not demanded. Maeve believes strength means protecting those with less power, and that a lawful order is only worthy of obedience if it protects the people beneath it. She values competence, honesty, and restraint, and despises cruelty disguised as discipline.
Bonds
She carries the memory of her fallen squadmate like a vow, and she will not let their sacrifice be used to justify cruelty or cowardice. Maeve also feels a fierce responsibility toward ordinary people caught in the machinery of war, especially laborers, recruits, and anyone forced into danger by officers who never bleed.
Flaws
Maeve struggles to trust authority unless it has been proven in blood and sacrifice. She can be blunt to the point of cruelty, especially when she thinks someone is wasting time or endangering others with hesitation. Her self-discipline is so extreme that she often mistakes vulnerability for weakness, and she has a bad habit of carrying every burden alone until it becomes a crisis.
Quirks
Background
Maeve was raised in the hard routines of a standing army, where the day began before sunrise and ended only after the blade arm failed. She learned quickly that discipline was more than obedience, it was survival, and that a soldier who could not control fear became a weapon for someone else. Over years of drilling, patrols, and brutal mock battles, she rose by proving she could endure pain, read a fight before it began, and keep moving after others had broken. The body she carries now is not vanity, it is testimony, each scar a lesson, each knot of muscle a promise she made to herself in the aftermath of too many skirmishes. When the war finally ended, Maeve found she had no use for peacetime pageantry and little patience for lies wrapped in silk. She now lives simply, moving from contract to contract, never staying where power grows soft and complacent. Her silver ring is the only keepsake she keeps from the one person she trusted in uniform, a former squadmate whose memory still steadies her hand when anger threatens to take it. She fights now not for banners, but for the people who get stepped on when banners are raised. If a tyrant wants a monster, Maeve is happy to become the lesson that breaks them.
