Appearance
A broad-shouldered human man with weathered olive skin, a blunt nose, and thick chestnut hair usually tied loosely at the nape. His gray-green eyes are calm until danger appears, when they become startlingly focused. Old training scars cross his forearms and left shoulder. He wears practical leather wrappings, a faded red military sash, and a bear-claw pendant carved from dark horn.
Mannerisms
Tavren rolls his shoulders before a fight as if settling an invisible pack. He speaks quietly when calm, forcing others to lean closer, and becomes unnervingly polite when he is furious. He habitually checks doorways, windows, and the hands of anyone entering a room.
Personality
Tavren is direct, practical, and unexpectedly gentle with animals, children, and anyone trying hard despite poor odds. He distrusts grand speeches and prefers people who admit what they want. He enjoys campfire games, dry humor, and the quiet companionship of a shared meal, but he becomes impatient with ceremony and refuses to flatter people who have not earned his respect.
Ideals
Freedom. No one should be forced to serve a cause they did not choose, and no commander deserves loyalty merely because they wear a uniform.
Bonds
He carries the insignia of the unit that raised him and will risk himself to protect its surviving veterans. He also owes a debt to the families of the wounded soldiers he saved during the winter withdrawal.
Flaws
He mistakes obedience for weakness and authority for cowardice. Once angered, he finds it difficult to stop escalating a conflict, especially if someone is being bullied or ordered around by a lesser person.
Quirks
Background
Tavren Mikeladze was born in a crowded riverside quarter where human traders, laborers, and discharged soldiers lived shoulder to shoulder. His mother repaired harnesses, while his father served in a border levy and returned home with little more than a chipped handaxe and a talent for telling stories that made hard years sound honorable. Tavren grew up strong, restless, and too quick to answer an insult. The army gave those qualities a direction. He learned to march, hold a line, read a campfire, and carry frightened men through mud without asking whether they deserved saving. His temper became legend during a winter withdrawal, when a panicked officer abandoned a wagon train of wounded soldiers. Tavren disobeyed orders, broke the officer's nose, and led the survivors through an enemy cordon by sheer force and stubbornness. The veterans called it bravery. His superiors called it insubordination. Tavren accepted a dishonorable discharge, keeping only his old insignia and a horn pendant made from the equipment of a fallen friend. Now he travels as a mercenary and troubleshooter, seeking work that lets him choose his own orders. He has no love for banners, but he still cannot walk away when ordinary people are left behind.
