- Hack and Slash
When When you attack an enemy in melee.
On a 10+, deal your damage and avoid their attack. At your option, you may choose to deal +1d6 damage but expose yourself to the enemy's attack. On a 7–9, deal your damage and the enemy makes an attack against you.
- Volley
When When you take aim and shoot at an enemy at range.
On a 10+, you have a clear shot and deal your damage. On a 7–9, choose one: you have to move to get the shot, placing yourself in danger as described by the GM; take what you can get and deal -1d6 damage; or you have to take several shots, reducing your ammunition by one.
- Defy Danger
When When you act despite an imminent threat or suffer a calamity, say how you deal with it and roll + the relevant ability.
On a 10+, you do what you set out to do and avoid the danger. On a 7–9, you stumble, hesitate, or flinch: the GM will offer you a worse outcome, hard bargain, or ugly choice.
- Defend
When When you stand in defense of a person, item, or location under attack.
On a 10+, hold 3. On a 7–9, hold 1. While you stand in defense of a person, item, or location, when they are attacked you may spend hold, 1 for 1, to choose an option: redirect the attack to yourself; halve the attack's effect or damage; open the attacker to an ally, giving that ally +1 forward against them; or deal damage to the attacker equal to your level.
- Spout Lore
When When you consult your accumulated knowledge about something.
On a 10+, the GM will tell you something interesting and useful about the subject. On a 7–9, the GM will only tell you something interesting. The GM may ask, “How do you know this?” Tell them the truth.
- Discern Realities
When When you closely study a situation or person.
On a 10+, ask the GM 3 questions from the list. On a 7–9, ask 1. Take +1 forward when acting on the answers: What happened here recently? What is about to happen? What should I be on the lookout for? What here is useful or valuable to me? Who's really in control here? What here is not what it appears to be?
- Parley
When When you have leverage on a GM character and manipulate them.
On a 10+, they do what you ask if you first promise what they ask of you. On a 7–9, they need some concrete assurance of your promise right now.
- Bend Bars, Lift Gates
When When you use pure strength to destroy an inanimate obstacle.
On a 10+, choose 2. On a 7–9, choose 1: it doesn't take a long time; nothing of value is damaged; you can fix the thing again without a lot of effort; you can do it with a relatively small amount of noise.
- Armored
When While wearing armor with the clumsy tag.
You ignore the clumsy tag on armor you wear.
- Signature Weapon
When When you define or make use of your chosen signature weapon.
Choose a base description and look, then choose two enhancements. Base: one-handed sword, close. Enhancements: +1 damage and a distinctive hammer-marked fuller. Your signature weapon deals your class damage, d10, with the chosen +1 damage enhancement.

Appearance
A broad, compact dwarf with dark, watchful eyes, a thick chestnut beard bound with plain iron rings, and hair cropped short at the temples. His square jaw shows when he chews, with one prominent lower tooth that catches the light when he grins. He wears practical chainmail under a soot-dark leather apron, and stands with his weight settled evenly, as if waiting for a hammer to fall.
Mannerisms
He tests the balance of tools in his palm and taps metal lightly with a knuckle to hear its ring. When waiting, he plants both feet and keeps his hands loose at his sides.
Personality
Steady, observant, and quietly competitive, Ngrud respects skill wherever he finds it. He is more comfortable showing care through a repaired buckle or sharpened blade than saying what he feels.
Ideals
Glory. Ngrud seeks the honor of making work so sound and useful that people remember the craft, even if they forget the smith.
Bonds
____ has stood beside me when the work turned dangerous, and I will make them a weapon worthy of that trust. I want ____ to see that a smith can learn from anyone, even when clan custom says otherwise. I owe ____ a fair share of whatever knowledge or craft we uncover together.
Flaws
He can mistake patient craft for the only proper way to solve a problem, and finds it hard to ask for help before he has exhausted his own strength.
Quirks
Background
As custom demands, Ngrud has left his clan's mountain halls to travel until he has learned enough of the wider world to return a better smith. He carries the clan's practical lessons with him: test the metal, listen to the hammer's ring, and never call a thing finished merely because it looks finished. His elders gave him no grand quest, only the expectation that he bring back knowledge worth sharing. At the ford called the Wide Stones, he once watched a village smith mend a cracked plow with a technique absent from the clan's manuals. The repair held through harvest. That small success unsettled Ngrud more than any battle: skill, he realized, could be found anywhere, and pride could make a craft brittle. He now studies every forge he encounters, trades labor for instruction, and keeps a notebook of methods to test when he has a proper anvil again.
“His elders gave him no grand quest, only the expectation that he bring back knowledge worth sharing.”
