Appearance
Grok is a wiry, small-framed goblin with moss-green skin weathered darker across his knuckles, elbows, and nose from years spent crawling through alleys, gutters, and abandoned cellars. His oversized ears are decorated with mismatched bits of brass wire and colored thread. He keeps his black hair shaved close on the sides and tied into a tiny topknot, which he oils carefully despite the rest of his grooming being inconsistent. His yellow eyes are sharp and constantly moving, and his grin reveals several filed teeth. He wears patched leather armor beneath a soot-stained brown cloak, with numerous hidden pockets sewn into both garments.
Mannerisms
Grok rarely stands still. He rocks on the balls of his feet, taps his fingers against his thigh in little counting rhythms, and leans close when listening as though every conversation is a secret. When nervous, he quietly names nearby exits. When pleased, he clicks his teeth twice and gives an exaggerated, theatrical bow.
Personality
Grok is suspicious, quick-witted, and fiercely practical. He speaks in short bursts, often using oddly formal words he learned by listening outside noble houses. He dislikes being pitied more than he dislikes being threatened, and he treats locks, traps, and social rules as puzzles designed to be beaten. Beneath his selfish instincts is an observant and unexpectedly loyal companion who notices hunger, loneliness, and fear because he has lived with all three.
Ideals
Freedom. No one owns me, feeds me, or decides where I belong. Every locked door is an insult, and every open road is an invitation.
Bonds
Nella disappeared after being arrested for a crime Grok believes he committed. He keeps searching for proof of where she was taken and refuses to abandon anyone who once offered him shelter.
Flaws
Grok assumes every generous offer hides a trap, and he will often steal something small from a person who has just helped him, as if testing whether their kindness was genuine.
Quirks
Background
Grok was raised beneath the market district of a sprawling human city, where the storm drains ran warm in winter and the discarded produce was fresher after midnight. He learned early that humans noticed height, volume, and confidence before they noticed a small goblin slipping between their legs. The first person to teach him anything useful was an elderly pickpocket named Nella, who showed him how to read a crowd by its shoes, how to sleep with one hand on his purse, and how to leave a place before anyone realized something was missing. Grok repaid her by stealing medicine, bread, and eventually a set of thieves tools from a magistrate's locked office.
