Appearance
A small forest gnome woman with russet-brown hair worn in two loose braids, warm umber skin, and bright green eyes that seem to catch stray points of light. Her clothing is practical, layered, and weather-stained, consisting of a moss-colored cloak, a patched priestly sash, soft leather boots, and a belt crowded with herb pouches, chalk, and old keys. A cracked bronze reliquary hangs at her throat, its surface polished smooth only where her thumb constantly rubs it. Within a minute of meeting her, people notice her low, musical voice and the way her breath becomes quick and shallow whenever she is frightened or angry. She carries a carved ash staff capped with a small silver crescent, and a tiny sprite familiar often hides in her hood.
Mannerisms
She pauses before entering any doorway, touching two fingers to the lintel as if checking an invisible seal. When speaking of the ruined city, she unconsciously lowers her voice. When rattled, her breath catches in short, audible sips and her thumb begins polishing the bronze reliquary at her throat.
Personality
Eiluned is attentive, patient, and quietly stubborn. She listens to the wilderness as if it were a congregation, noticing bird calls, broken twigs, and changes in wind before she notices conversation. She is kind to frightened people and small animals, but becomes severe around ruins, sealed doors, and anyone who treats ancient dangers as opportunities for profit. Her humor is dry and unexpectedly playful, often delivered in a whisper at precisely the wrong moment.
Ideals
The boundary matters. Freedom means little if the helpless are left exposed to horrors they cannot understand, so I will choose the dangerous path that keeps ordinary people safe.
Bonds
The abandoned city is her charge, and she will risk almost anything to keep its wards intact. She also carries the last surviving page of her priesthood’s liturgy, believing that restoring the forgotten temple may be the only way to end the city’s curse.
Flaws
She is so afraid of failing her duty that she treats every unknown traveler as a possible catastrophe. She hides uncertainty behind brisk orders and can become controlling when the wards or her companions are threatened. A part of her also suspects that her patron engineered the city’s fall, yet she keeps accepting its guidance because she cannot imagine protecting the world without it.
Quirks
Background
She was once a junior priestess of the Veiled Hearth, a small gnome priesthood devoted to preserving the boundaries between the mortal world and the things that should never cross into it. Her temple stood in a city whose name has been erased from most maps. When the city fell, the temple was buried beneath stone, ash, and silence. She survived in a sealed reliquary chamber, sustained by dwindling stores and half-understood prayers, until an otherworldly voice answered her final plea for guidance. The voice belonged to an archfey who had watched the city’s wards from beyond the world and offered her power in exchange for service as a keeper of the boundary. Now she lives in a weather-beaten hermitage beyond the ruined city, tending medicinal plants, mapping changes in the ward-lines, and patrolling the surrounding wilderness. Treasure hunters, grave robbers, and reckless scholars are driven away whenever possible. More dangerous are the creatures that slip through weakened seals, things with too many shadows, voices that remember the dead, and beasts whose bodies carry fragments of impossible architecture. She does not know whether her patron truly wants the city contained, or merely wants its secrets preserved for later use. She continues the work because someone must stand between the ruins and the world, and because she fears what will happen if she ever stops listening to the voice beneath the stones.
