Appearance
A beautiful Filipina human woman with warm brown skin, expressive dark eyes, long black hair, and a graceful hourglass figure. She wears only a practical crimson bikini top and a short dark mini skirt, leaving her arms, shoulders, midriff, and legs uncovered. Her quarterstaff is etched with tiny prayer-script sigils, and her spellbook hangs from a cord at her hip.
Mannerisms
She traces invisible letters in the air while thinking, taps her staff three times before casting a spell, and lowers her voice to a reverent whisper whenever discussing dangerous magic.
Personality
Warm, observant, and quietly intense. Mara listens to people as though their words are sacred texts, then asks unnervingly precise questions. She is compassionate toward ordinary people, fascinated by contradictory beliefs, and happiest when surrounded by old books, rain, and someone willing to debate metaphysics until dawn.
Ideals
Knowledge is a sacred responsibility. Every truth should be pursued, but the powerful must never be allowed to hoard it from the people who suffer beneath its consequences.
Bonds
The riverside temple that raised her is her true home, and she will risk almost anything to restore its burned archive. She is also bound to her former mentor, who gave her the damaged prayer book and asked her never to let its secrets fall into the wrong hands.
Flaws
She treats uncertainty as a personal insult and can become reckless when someone suggests that a mystery should remain unsolved. She is also vain about her intelligence, disguising fear with elaborate explanations and refusing help until she has already made a problem worse.
Quirks
Background
Mara Sabel Dela Cruz was raised in a riverside temple where her family maintained lamps, copied prayer books, and welcomed travelers from distant islands. As a child, she discovered that the temple's old hymns concealed mathematical patterns. When she recited them beneath the moon, dust rose from the floor in perfect spirals and extinguished candles relit themselves. Her priestly mentor recognized the signs of a wizard's mind and arranged for her to study arcane theory alongside sacred scripture. Mara eventually learned that the temple's oldest prayer book was not merely devotional. Its margins contained fragments of a vanished magical tradition, written by an unknown scholar who believed divine miracles and arcane formulae were different languages describing the same truth. When a fire destroyed part of the temple archive, Mara left home to recover the missing pages and determine whether the disaster was accidental. She adventures as both acolyte and wizard, offering blessings before battle, recording every supernatural event she witnesses, and searching for the person who knows why the lost pages were taken.
“As a child, she discovered that the temple's old hymns concealed mathematical patterns.”
