Appearance
A tall half-elf woman in polished green and black plate armor, its edges etched with subtle vine and filigree motifs. She carries herself with noble poise, though there is a guarded sharpness in her eyes and a habit of standing as if awaiting judgment. Her long hair is usually braided back to keep it clear of the helm, and her shield bears the understated crest of a house that never truly claimed her.
Mannerisms
She speaks with precise courtesy even when angry, as if she refuses to let anyone else drag her down to their level. When displeased, she taps two armored fingers against her shield before answering. She stands very still when listening, but the muscles in her jaw tighten whenever family, titles, or legitimacy are mentioned.
Personality
Controlled, observant, and quietly severe, Elowen believes kindness means intervening before cruelty becomes tradition. She is slow to trust and slower to forgive, but fiercely loyal once someone earns her respect. In public she is composed and dignified, in private she has a dry wit and a surprisingly gentle patience for honest labor and earnest people.
Ideals
Fairness. Birth should never decide worth, and power exists to protect those whom society refuses to see.
Bonds
She wears her uncle's gifted armor as a living promise that someone in her family chose her freely. She is deeply protective of bastards, disowned children, apprentices, and anyone else treated as less than their due. She still keeps one signet of her birth house, not out of loyalty, but as proof that titles are only as honorable as the people who bear them.
Flaws
She takes slights personally, even when they are not meant for her, and once she decides someone is corrupt, she finds it hard to imagine they could be redeemed. Her pride can make her cold, and her hunger for justice can turn into vindictiveness when she is reminded of her own exile. She also has a dangerous habit of enduring pain in silence, as if accepting suffering proves she was never weak to begin with.
Quirks
Background
Elowen Varric was born into silk, sigils, and whispered promises, the third daughter of a formally great house that had long since begun to rot behind its polished doors. She was raised to smile at feasts and remain silent at tables where her future was negotiated by people who never asked what she wanted. Then the truth broke open. She was not her father's child, but the result of a long-hidden affair between her mother and a rival nobleman. The revelation made her both scandal and evidence, and her own family cast her out as if she were a stain they could scrub away. The cruelty of it hardened her, but it also gave her a purpose. No child should be denied fairness, dignity, or the simple right to be seen. Her distant uncle, one of the few kin who refused to bow to the family's ugliness, secretly arranged her apprenticeship among a guild of armorers and shield-makers. There she learned that metal remembers every hammer blow, that true craft is patience made visible, and that worth can be built by hand when blood fails you. Years later he gifted her the green and black plate she now wears, custom-fit and beautifully balanced, a silent rebuke to the father who had shunned her. When Elowen took her vows as a paladin, she did not swear to preserve the pride of houses or the comfort of the powerful. She swore to punish betrayal, defend the cast off, and make certain that those who hide behind rank learn what judgment feels like from the other side of a blade.
