Appearance
Ketta is a compact halfling with weather-browned skin, a broad nose, dark hazel eyes, and thick black hair kept in a practical braid. A pale scar crosses one eyebrow, and her small hands are ink-stained from years of copying prayers and binding folios. She wears a well-kept leather coat over faded acolyte vestments, with a brass holy symbol at her throat and a dark glass shard set into her arcane focus.
Mannerisms
Ketta touches the brass holy symbol at her throat whenever she lies. When thinking, she taps a rhythm with one thumb against the edge of her prayer book, usually in groups of three.
Personality
Ketta is observant, dryly funny, and unfailingly attentive to anyone who feels overlooked. She speaks plainly, dislikes grand sermons, and treats practical kindness as a sacred duty. Although she appears calm, she is always measuring exits, listening for hidden meanings, and wondering what her patron is not telling her.
Ideals
Mercy must be practical. A prayer that does not feed the hungry, shelter the frightened, or protect the powerless is only decoration.
Bonds
The hill-shrine where Ketta was raised is rebuilding after the fire, and she sends most of her coin home. She will risk almost anything to recover the missing pages of its oldest prayer book.
Flaws
Ketta cannot leave a mystery alone, even when solving it would be dangerous or cruel. She also hides serious problems until she has a plan, because admitting fear feels too much like admitting that her patron controls her.
Quirks
Background
Ketta Gatik grew up among the lantern-keepers of a small halfling shrine built into the lower chambers of an old hill-fort. Her people valued quiet service, careful records, and the belief that every traveler deserved a warm meal before being asked where they came from. Ketta proved an excellent copyist and an impatient theologian. She could remember a prayer after hearing it once, but she was far more interested in the questions that prayers left unanswered. Her life changed when she found a sealed fragment of black glass beneath the shrine, wrapped in a page that bore no saint's name. When she touched it, something vast and distant answered through the stone. The presence offered no comfort and demanded no worship. It simply promised knowledge in exchange for doors opened, secrets carried, and debts remembered. Ketta accepted the bargain to save the shrine from a fire set by grave robbers, then concealed the truth from her superiors. Now she travels as a wandering acolyte, using forbidden power to protect the helpless while searching for the origin of the voice. She still tends shrines, copies sacred texts, and gives alms, but every act of kindness is shadowed by the fear that her patron is learning compassion by watching her.
