Appearance
Walter "Tex" Texas is a broad-shouldered aasimar with sun-burnished brown skin, a square jaw, and a grin that reveals one prominent silver-capped canine. His hair is cropped close on the sides and swept back into a pale, wind-tossed crest that glows faintly at the tips when his celestial power stirs. His eyes are deep amber with tiny points of blue-white light around the pupils. He wears practical chain mail beneath a weather-stained ranger's coat, reinforced boots, and a battered military harness covered in feathers, brass tags, and odd pieces of salvaged starship metal. Garth, his spectral space owl companion, usually perches on his shoulder or circles above him like a silent fragment of the night sky.
Mannerisms
Tex speaks in a rough frontier cadence that becomes faster and more clipped when danger approaches. He taps two fingers against his breastplate while thinking, looks upward before making promises, and gives Garth a quiet verbal briefing before entering any unfamiliar room. When he laughs, he throws his head back and shows the silver-capped canine, then immediately pretends the laugh was a cough.
Personality
Tex is a warm, stubborn protector who treats strangers like potential squadmates until they prove otherwise. He is practical about danger, generous with food and ammunition, and deeply suspicious of anyone who uses grand speeches to justify hurting civilians. He enjoys giving dramatic names to simple plans, especially when the plan is nothing more than moving quickly and shooting accurately.
Ideals
Freedom. No government, army, deity, or distant ruler has the right to grind ordinary people beneath its machinery. Law is only worthwhile when it protects those who cannot protect themselves.
Bonds
The oppressed people of the lost sectors are his true command. He carries a cracked identification plate from the first refugee convoy he ever protected, and he intends to return someday with enough allies to free the settlements abandoned by every recognized government.
Flaws
Tex is quick to defy authority, even when obedience would be tactically wiser. He assumes every official has a hidden agenda, and his confidence in his own galactic law can become reckless self-righteousness. He also has difficulty admitting when he is afraid, which makes his breathing turn sharp and audible while he insists that everything is under control.
Quirks
Background
Walter Texas was born somewhere beyond any chart recognized by the civilized worlds, in a war-torn sector where border moons changed hands faster than maps could be printed. He grew up among refugees, deserters, and cargo haulers, learning early that official law often arrived late, badly armed, and interested in the wrong people. The soldiers who raised him taught him how to march, repair weapons, read a perimeter, and keep moving when frightened. From the wreckage of a fallen observatory, Tex recovered an injured owl-like creature made of starlight and storm-dark feathers. He named it Garth, and the two became inseparable.
