Appearance
Brek is a broad-shouldered bronze dragonborn with dark copper scales that catch green highlights in harsh sunlight. His horns sweep backward close to his skull, and pale gold eyes give him a patient, measuring stare. He wears sun-faded blue robes over practical desert layers, with strips of linen wrapped around his forearms. His hands are unusually distinctive, broad and heavily callused across the palms from years of drawing on stone, tightening tent lines, and maintaining a steel-shod staff. He smells faintly of hot metal, bitter herbs, and dust, a scent he assumes everyone carries in the Anauroch.
Mannerisms
Brek traces invisible lines between distant objects with one claw while thinking. Before making a decision, he glances toward the horizon, even indoors. When annoyed, he taps the steel cap of his staff three times against the ground.
Personality
Quietly observant and unexpectedly dry-humored, Brek treats nearly every problem as a question of orientation, leverage, or timing. He is generous with water, patient with beginners, and suspicious of anyone who claims certainty without showing their work. Although he prefers preparation, the desert has taught him to improvise when the map burns.
Ideals
The world is full of hidden paths, and knowledge is only virtuous when it helps someone cross them safely.
Bonds
The caravan that raised me vanished near the buried observatory of Qasr Namar. I will find its people, or learn what happened to them, before I allow myself a permanent home.
Flaws
I become stubborn and argumentative when someone ignores a careful measurement or chooses a route based only on instinct. I also have difficulty abandoning a problem once I believe the answer is close, even when people are tired, thirsty, or frightened.
Quirks
Background
Brek was hatched in a caravan camp where bronze dragonborn served as water finders, tent-menders, and storm watchers. His first lessons in magic were not taught from a tower or a formal academy. They were scratched into slate beside half-buried milestones, where his mentor showed him that every dune had a direction, every shadow contained a measurement, and every distant ruin was part of a larger pattern. The horizon weavers taught him to treat distance as a language. Brek learned to read wind-carved ridges, calculate the movement of stars, and call small natural forces to his aid through patient ritual.
