Appearance
Katik is a lean, weather-hardened tiefling with deep russet skin, swept-back black horns, and a narrow tail marked by old pale bands from years spent traveling through thorn scrub and high mountain passes. His teeth are unusually square and strong, noticeable when he tears food with his incisors or gives a sudden, sharp laugh. His hands are callused from climbing, trapping, and staff work. He dresses in layered travel leathers beneath a dark red cloak, with a brass-bound ritual book hanging at his hip. His eyes glow a muted amber, brightening when his patron's power answers him.
Mannerisms
Katik studies the sky before answering difficult questions, taps the butt of his staff three times before entering unfamiliar ground, and smiles with his teeth when he is angry rather than when he is amused.
Personality
Katik is practical, alert, and openly kind to people who are lost, hungry, or frightened. He speaks plainly and dislikes grand speeches, but he has a dry sense of humor and an instinct for finding the one useful detail everyone else missed. He treats his fiendish patron as a dangerous contract partner rather than a master, always looking for the exact wording that protects innocent people.
Ideals
Freedom. No tyrant, fiend, priest, or chieftain has the right to decide where another person may walk or whom they may love.
Bonds
The caravan that raised me is scattered across dangerous roads. I will find its missing families and bring them somewhere safe.
Flaws
I am slow to trust anyone who lives comfortably behind walls, and I can become needlessly reckless when someone insults or endangers a traveler.
Quirks
Background
Katik Garet was born among a caravan of tiefling traders who crossed the dry uplands between settled towns and wild country. His infernal appearance made him a target for suspicion, so he learned early to read weather, spoor, and human faces with equal care. He became the caravan's pathfinder, hunter, and night watchman, guiding people around bandit roads and through storms that swallowed lesser travelers. He carried a staff, a hunting trap, and a small collection of charms gathered from places where the wilderness seemed to whisper back.
