Appearance
Thorgash is a young, tall, handsome orc with a powerful, hairy, muscular build. He has short brown hair styled in a neat quiff, soft brown eyes, a broad nose, small lower tusks, and a short, carefully trimmed beard. He wears a simple earth-toned tunic, sturdy pants, comfortable shoes, and a practical belt carrying his spellbook and ink supplies. Though physically imposing, he tries to make himself seem smaller in conversation, often standing slightly behind others despite being impossible to overlook.
Mannerisms
Thorgash checks the corners of his spellbook whenever he enters a room, then unconsciously squares it with the nearest table or shelf. He speaks softly at first, often looking down, but his voice becomes warm and precise when discussing history or magic. He ducks through doorways despite usually having enough clearance and instinctively steps aside to make room for people who do not need it.
Personality
Kind, gentle, studious, and intensely observant. Thorgash is shy around strangers, especially handsome men, and worries that his size and tusks make others uncomfortable. He listens carefully, remembers small details about people's lives, and shows affection through practical help. His insecurity makes him hesitant to claim authority, but when someone is being mistreated, his quiet patience hardens into determined action.
Ideals
Knowledge should be used to relieve suffering, not to make the learned feel superior. Every person deserves the chance to understand the forces shaping their life.
Bonds
The archive that gave him his first chance is threatened by debt and political interference. Thorgash is determined to preserve its collection and protect the mentor who taught him that knowledge should serve the vulnerable.
Flaws
Thorgash assumes that anyone more confident than he is must also be more competent. He avoids difficult conversations until they become urgent, and he sometimes lets louder people take credit for his ideas. When nervous, he overexplains simple points and apologizes for taking up space.
Quirks
Background
Thorgash grew up in a close-knit orc settlement where strength was respected, but kindness was never considered weakness. His mother noticed early that he had an unusual gift for remembering spoken words and recognizing patterns in old songs, trade marks, and weather signs. When a traveling scholar visited the settlement, Thorgash became fascinated by the written records in the scholar's pack. He left home with his family's blessing to study at a small urban archive, where he learned to read, copied brittle manuscripts, and discovered that the structure of magic felt to him like a language with perfect grammar. At the archive, Thorgash became a devoted apprentice to an elderly human wizard who valued patience over bravado. He learned the fundamentals of wizardry, but his shyness made him reluctant to demonstrate his progress in front of other students. Instead, he practiced alone late at night, quietly testing spells between rows of sleeping books. Now he travels to broaden his knowledge, help people who cannot afford a wizard's attention, and prove to himself that gentleness and courage can belong in the same person. He is gay and only attracted to men, though he becomes flustered whenever affection or admiration turns toward him.
