Appearance
A wiry old rock gnome with a weathered face, bright suspicious eyes, and a grin that never quite says what it means. He wears polished chain mail beneath a dark hooded cloak, with a battered shield, a well-kept longsword, and the faintly criminal habit of always standing where the shadows are deepest. His hands are scarred, nimble, and far too quick for a man his age.
Mannerisms
He taps his knuckles on doors before entering, as if negotiating with them. When amused, he whistles through his teeth like a tea kettle and calls everyone by some ridiculous nickname.
Personality
Cheeky, sly, and disarmingly polite, Grahambler treats danger like a bad tavern joke and answers fear with a wink. He speaks softly, smiles often, and watches everything, especially exits, pockets, and lies. Under the humor is a stubborn mercy, and under the mercy is the memory of a god who let him live for a reason he still does not fully understand.
Ideals
Freedom with teeth. The strong should not own the weak, and a little blood spilled for a better world is not always a sin.
Bonds
He owes his second life to Bahl, and he treats that debt like a sacred, dangerous contract. He protects the broken and unlucky, especially thieves, beggars, and old fools who have run out of road.
Flaws
He cannot resist a risky joke, a locked door, or a sinister bargain that sounds like it ought to be refused. When someone mentions death too casually, his temper turns cold and sharp, as if he is arguing with an old friend.
Quirks
Background
Grahambler was never the sort of gnome who could stay honest for long, even when he tried. In his younger years he ran with lockpick crews, back-alley card sharps, and smugglers who could find profit in a coffin. He learned quickly that the law was usually too slow, too proud, or too stupid to catch him, and he spent most of his life laughing at danger while slipping out of its grip. That changed on a rain-soaked night when a murder cult put a blade through his ribs and left him to die in a ditch behind a chapel. He should have been dead before dawn. Instead, he woke with blood in his beard, a new terror of silence in his bones, and the unmistakable knowledge that Bahl, the God of murder, had decided his death was not yet due. Whether Bahl spared him out of amusement, appetite, or some wicked bargain, Grahambler took the miracle as a debt that could never be repaid with coin alone. He turned from petty theft to ruthless purpose, becoming a paladin not of clean halls and noble banners, but of survival, vengeance, and terrible favors done for necessary reasons. He still cheats at cards, still lies when the truth would be boring, and still keeps old criminal friends in hidden places. But now his grin hides a vow, if Bahl gave him one more sunrise, Grahambler means to spend it making sure the wicked fear what comes after theirs.
