Appearance
Boric is a broad, powerfully built tortle with dark olive-green skin and a massive shell patterned in muted ocher and river-stone gray. His shell bears carefully painted white marks that record the names of soldiers, refugees, and villages he has protected. He smells faintly of cedar oil, salt, and the medicinal herbs he keeps tucked into his traveling kit. Before speaking, he pauses for a long breath through his beak, then clears his throat with a low, gravelly rumble. He carries himself with deliberate patience, but his hands are always close to his weapons.
Mannerisms
Boric pauses before answering almost every question, taking one deep breath through his beak first. He polishes his shell markings whenever he is anxious, and he instinctively positions himself between strangers and the person he considers most vulnerable. In battle, he gives calm, precise commands in the same tone he uses to order tea.
Personality
Boric is patient, courteous, and unusually attentive to frightened people. He listens without interrupting, remembers small details about everyone he meets, and prefers practical kindness to grand speeches. In danger, his gentleness does not disappear, it becomes focused and frighteningly direct.
Ideals
Protection. Strength is not proven by what it can destroy, but by what it can stand between and danger.
Bonds
The names painted on my shell belong to people who trusted me to keep them alive. I will not let their sacrifice become an empty story.
Flaws
I treat hesitation as a moral failure, and my instinct to act can turn a tense situation into a dangerous one. I am also quietly terrified that, without a unit to command, I am useful only when someone needs violence.
Quirks
Background
Boric was raised among tortles who lived along a broad, slow-moving river, where every traveler was taught that a strong shell existed to shelter more than its owner. When raiders began preying on river settlements, Boric joined a local defense company. He was not the fastest recruit or the most polished speaker, but he could hold a bridge alone long enough for villagers to escape, and he never abandoned a person simply because the battle had turned against them. His commanders eventually gave him the rank of sergeant, a title he still treats as a responsibility rather than an honor.
