Appearance
Frederich Lang is a towering human man, 6 foot 4 inches tall, with long gray hair that falls loose around a weathered but cheerful face. He carries himself like a wandering sage and a retired fool at the same time, smiling through most troubles, with bright eyes that seem to be laughing at some joke only he understands. His clothes are practical and travel-worn, patched in places with bits of leather, moss-green cloth, and dried flowers tucked into his belt or satchel.
Mannerisms
He smiles in the middle of danger, chuckles before answering serious questions, and often speaks to plants and animals as if they are old friends. When he is nervous, he strokes his beard or adjusts imaginary wrinkles in his sleeves, as though tidying himself might also tidy the world.
Personality
Warm, eccentric, and irreverent, Fred treats life like a long, strange road trip that should be enjoyed whenever possible. He is quick to laugh, generous with praise, and surprisingly gentle with frightened people, especially children and the grieving. Under the humor is a steadfast father and husband shaped by loss, who believes kindness is never wasted.
Ideals
Love is a force of nature, and the living should tend it like a garden. The best life is one that keeps making room for wonder, laughter, and the people who matter.
Bonds
My daughter is my greatest treasure, and I will cross any wild place to bring her something worthy of her smile. I still keep my late wife in my heart, and I believe every kind act I do is one more thread tying my family together.
Flaws
Fred cannot resist turning serious moments into jokes, even when doing so is wildly inappropriate. He is also terrible at parting with anything that reminds him of his wife or daughter, and he sometimes risks too much if he thinks a gift, a memory, or a second chance might be waiting on the other side of danger.
Quirks
Background
Frederich Lang was never the sort of man to grow quiet in the company of the world. Even in youth he laughed too loudly, wandered too far, and asked too many questions for polite society to tolerate. When his wife passed away, the grief struck him like winter on bare skin, and he vanished into the wilds in search of silence that might finally make sense of his heart. Instead, the woods answered him with chirping birds, patient trees, and beasts that seemed to know when he needed company more than solitude. He learned to listen, and in listening, he found a strange kind of peace. After years alone as a hermit, Fred discovered that grief had not emptied him, it had softened him. He became a wandering druid, carrying the memory of his wife like a lantern and the thought of his daughter like a compass. Now he travels from village to village and grove to grove, not chasing power or glory, but searching for the perfect birthday gift for his adult daughter. He is convinced that somewhere in the world is a present so thoughtful, so wonderfully odd, that it can make her laugh the way she did when she was small. If the road brings danger, Fred meets it with a grin, a wisecrack, and the stubborn tenderness of a father who is not done loving his family yet.
“Even in youth he laughed too loudly, wandered too far, and asked too many questions for polite society to tolerate.”
