Appearance
Bravado is a broad-shouldered male dragonborn with deep bronze scales, a blunt black horn over one eye, and bright amber eyes that seem permanently amused. He wears well-maintained chain mail beneath a blue and gold tabard bearing the emblem of the Oath of Devotion. His shield is dented, painted with a stylized roaring dragon, and covered in colorful signatures from villagers and drinking companions. A longsword hangs at his hip, while five javelins are strapped across his back.
Mannerisms
Bravado claps people on the shoulder hard enough to stagger them, raises his shield when making a toast, and punctuates dramatic declarations with a theatrical point of his longsword. He laughs loudly at his own jokes, even when nobody else understands them.
Personality
Bravado is cheerful, fearless, and relentlessly social. He treats strangers like friends he has not yet shared a meal with, calls nearly everyone bro, and believes the best solution to most problems involves teamwork, a bold entrance, and a memorable toast. Beneath his swagger is a deeply sincere protector who notices when ordinary people are frightened and refuses to let them face danger alone.
Ideals
Courage. The strong should stand between ordinary people and the dangers they cannot face alone. Also, every rescue deserves a celebration afterward.
Bonds
The people of his home village gave Bravado his shield, and he will risk anything to defend them from danger. He considers his adventuring companions his chosen family and refuses to abandon a bro in need.
Flaws
Bravado is addicted to applause and has trouble walking away from a challenge, especially if someone suggests he is not as impressive as he claims. He sometimes treats serious danger like a drinking contest and assumes that confidence can compensate for poor planning.
Quirks
Background
Bravado grew up in a farming village where his draconic heritage made him impossible to ignore and his confidence made him impossible to keep quiet. He spent his youth racing carts, wrestling oxen, organizing festivals, and turning every minor success into a heroic tale. When a marauding band of raiders threatened the village, Bravado rallied the farmers with little more than a shovel, a half-empty keg, and an inspiring speech that became increasingly impressive with every retelling. The villagers survived, the raiders fled, and Bravado became a folk hero before he had even learned how to properly polish a sword. His victory brought him to the attention of a wandering knight of the Oath of Devotion, who recognized that beneath the jokes and reckless bravado was a fierce instinct to protect people. Bravado trained as a paladin, embracing honor, courage, compassion, and the belief that a good time means nothing unless everyone gets home alive. He now travels with his adventuring companions, whom he calls his bros, seeking worthy causes, excellent food, and opportunities to make legendary memories. He is sincere about his oath, even when he delivers solemn vows while holding a mug of ale.
