Appearance
A lean, athletic tiefling man with deep crimson skin, swept-back black hair, curved obsidian horns, and golden eyes with slit pupils. His tail is long and expressive, ending in a spade-shaped tip. He wears scarred chain mail beneath a bright crimson performer’s coat, polished steel bracers, and a blue scarf tied around his neck. His shield bears a painted theater mask split between laughter and grief.
Mannerisms
He bows after delivering a particularly sharp remark, even during combat. When nervous, he rolls a coin across his knuckles and quietly hums the overture from his first stage show.
Personality
Ravel is flamboyant, quick-witted, and relentlessly encouraging. He treats every battle like a performance, calling out dramatic introductions for enemies and praising companions for impressive maneuvers. Beneath the showmanship is a perceptive and compassionate man who notices when others feel excluded or afraid.
Ideals
Freedom. No one should be forced into a role chosen by birth, blood, reputation, or fear. Every person deserves the chance to write their own part.
Bonds
The traveling troupe that raised him is his true family, and he will risk almost anything to protect its members. He also carries the broken pommel of the guard’s sword from the night he first fought for them.
Flaws
He cannot resist an audience, even when silence would be wiser. Ravel also hides fear behind theatrical bravado and sometimes takes reckless risks rather than admit that he is uncertain or afraid.
Quirks
Background
Ravel Veyr was born backstage in a traveling company of actors, fire-eaters, musicians, and acrobats. His tiefling appearance made him a spectacle before he ever learned a line, so he turned suspicion into applause. He became a gifted tumbler and stage duelist, performing choreographed sword fights with such convincing fury that audiences sometimes forgot the blades were blunted. His favorite role was always the villain, because he believed a villain who could make people laugh was halfway to being forgiven. When bandits attacked the troupe during a winter crossing, Ravel discovered that stage combat could become real combat very quickly. He took up a fallen guard’s sword and held the attackers at bay long enough for the performers and families to escape. Afterward, he began training seriously as a fighter, determined to protect the people who had given him a home. He still travels from town to town, performing by night and taking dangerous work by day. Every performance is both a livelihood and a reminder that he refuses to let the world decide what a tiefling is supposed to be.
