Appearance
Solemn Dawn is a tall, fine-boned half-elf with warm brown skin, dark auburn hair worn in a meticulously braided crown, and calm gray-green eyes. Their vestments are exceptionally clean and carefully repaired, with every cord, clasp, and holy symbol placed with deliberate precision. They stand very still when listening, taking up less space than their height suggests, but their voice carries clearly across a crowded room. A polished wooden prayer bead bracelet circles one wrist, and their shield bears a simple rising sun painted in ochre and white.
Mannerisms
Solemn Dawn aligns objects on tables without seeming to notice they are doing it. Before answering a difficult question, they touch the prayer beads on their wrist three times. They speak gently to frightened animals, dead bodies, and strangers alike, as though all three deserve the same dignity.
Personality
Solemn Dawn is attentive, patient, and quietly intense. They remember small details about people, especially what they fear, what they refuse to say, and which kindnesses they pretend not to need. They prefer useful work to praise and sincere disagreement to polite agreement. Though reserved in unfamiliar company, they become unexpectedly warm when discussing healing, sacred architecture, or the habits of birds.
Ideals
Mercy is a discipline, not a feeling. The worth of a good act is measured by the suffering it prevents, not by the praise it receives.
Bonds
The temple of Auric Rest gave Solemn Dawn shelter, education, and purpose. They will protect its people and preserve its teachings, even when the institution's leaders are divided or afraid.
Flaws
Solemn Dawn can become quietly judgmental when others treat sacred duties carelessly. They are reluctant to admit uncertainty, sometimes mistaking a composed expression for genuine wisdom. When overwhelmed, they retreat into procedure and ritual instead of asking for help.
Quirks
Background
Solemn Dawn was raised between two worlds in the temple city of Auric Rest, where their elven mother served as a keeper of sacred records and their human father repaired bells, doors, and whatever else the clergy neglected. As a child, Solemn learned that faith was not confined to grand sermons. It lived in the bowl of soup left beside a mourner, the lantern lit for a traveler, and the patient repetition of a prayer that had already been spoken a thousand times. Their unusual name was given after they spent an entire night sitting beside a dying pilgrim, greeting the first light without once leaving the bedside. At the temple, Solemn became an acolyte known for their exacting devotion and their refusal to treat mercy as softness. They studied rites, healing, history, and the practical burdens of caring for ordinary people. Their first miracle came during a winter fever outbreak, when a desperate prayer brought warmth back to a child's hands. The temple elders interpreted the sign as a call to travel beyond the sanctuary walls. Solemn now journeys as a healer, mediator, and witness, seeking places where compassion has been forgotten and learning whether their faith remains strong when kindness is costly.
