Appearance
Broad-shouldered dwarf warrior with a cropped black beard threaded with iron beads, a scar across one brow, weathered chain mail polished more by habit than vanity, and a clan-signet ring worn on a cord around his neck. His gear is practical and battle-worn, but his bearing is that of a man who expects to be obeyed and hopes, privately, to be loved.
Mannerisms
Speaks in clipped battlefield phrases, counts plans on his knuckles, and unconsciously squares his shoulders whenever someone challenges his honor. When thinking, he taps two fingers against his beard beads, like a veteran checking the edge of a blade.
Personality
Stoic, decisive, and unexpectedly protective, Brannic acts like a commander even when he is supposed to be resting. He respects competence above pedigree, keeps promises like oaths, and has little patience for pomp, but he has a dry sense of humor that surfaces only around people he trusts. In private, he is more contemplative than he appears, especially when the future of the clan is at stake.
Ideals
Order through chosen strength. A clan should not be ruled by fear or blood alone, but by people strong enough to bear responsibility and clever enough to survive the work of unity.
Bonds
He is fiercely devoted to the clanhold, the ancestral forge, and the fourfold pact that will found a new house. He keeps the signet ring of his fallen captain and the old ledger of his bloodline's secret guild, both as vows that he will not abandon the past while remaking it.
Flaws
Brannic treats compromise as a delay tactic and secrecy as a sacred duty, which makes him hard to trust and harder to steer. He still thinks like a soldier, so when pressure rises he can become blunt, controlling, and willing to sacrifice warmth for victory. He also carries a dangerous pride, the belief that if he alone can see the hidden blade in the dark, then he alone should decide when it is drawn.
Quirks
Background
Brannic Stonevein was raised with three certainties, the hold beneath the mountain, the weight of duty, and the old blood-feud songs that said a clan survives only when it can strike first and endure longer. He trained as a soldier young, learned to march in iron boots, to break charges with a shield wall, and to keep his mouth shut when elders argued over whose banner should rise above the forge hall. When war took him beyond the ancestral stone, he became what the clan needed most, a hard hand with a steady aim and the talent to live through the fights other folk only survived in stories. He has returned home older, scarred, and dangerously certain that the old ways are not enough. Brannic intends to lead his clan as one of four equal heads, binding three rival clans into a new house strong enough to outlast the feuds that have bled the mountain for generations. Beneath that public oath sits a secret inheritance, an ancient assassin's guild of his bloodline, forgotten by most and denied by the righteous. He means to rebuild it in the shadows, not for cruelty, but as the hidden knife that will keep the new house alive when diplomacy fails and open war would doom everything he is trying to forge.
“He has returned home older, scarred, and dangerously certain that the old ways are not enough.”
