Appearance
Dhair is a tall, lean tiefling with ash-gray skin, swept-back black horns, and long black hair worn in a severe braid threaded with tiny silver rings. His eyes glow a muted ember-red, and his expression is usually composed enough to seem carved from stone. He dresses in immaculate black and burgundy robes beneath a fitted traveling coat lined with hidden pockets. He stands very still when waiting, placing his weight evenly on both feet and occupying more space than his narrow frame suggests. Within a minute of meeting him, most people notice that he never sits with his back to a door and that his left hand rests protectively over a black iron pendant shaped like a rose.
Mannerisms
Dhair pauses for exactly one breath before answering difficult questions. He adjusts the black iron rose with his thumb whenever someone mentions a god, and he corrects imprecise magical terminology even in the middle of danger. When someone enters a room, his eyes briefly measure exits, hands, and likely leverage before he acknowledges the person's face.
Personality
Dhair is controlled, observant, and unfailingly polite in the manner of someone who has already imagined three ways to ruin the conversation. He is fascinated by every form of magic, including divine magic, although he speaks of gods with contempt and priests with suspicion. He respects competence wherever he finds it, especially in thieves, scholars, and adversaries who refuse to be intimidated. He is capable of genuine affection, but he treats affection as a dangerous exception to his otherwise orderly worldview.
Ideals
Control. No god, devil, monarch, or prophet deserves obedience merely because it possesses greater power. Power must be understood before it can be resisted, and resisted before it can be made useful.
Bonds
The black iron rose pendant is the one gift Dhair has never sold, surrendered, or allowed to be stolen. He protects his planar criminal network because it is the closest thing he has to a family, and he secretly seeks the truth about what happened to his parents.
Flaws
Dhair cannot forgive unanswered prayer, and he reacts to sincere religious devotion as though it were a personal insult. He assumes every kindness conceals leverage, including his own. His confidence in his intellect makes him dangerously willing to test spells, bargains, and people beyond safe limits.

Background
Dhair Darkrose was born in the lower wards of Baldur's Gate, where his infernal blood made him a convenient omen for every frightened neighbor and a convenient target for every gang that needed someone disposable. His parents died before he was old enough to remember their voices. He prayed to any god whose name he could learn, offering up scraped knees, stolen candles, and promises he was too young to understand. Nothing answered. The priests who told him that silence was part of a divine plan became, in his mind, only better-dressed criminals. He survived by carrying messages, opening locks, forging seals, and learning which secrets were worth more than coin. Magic first fascinated him because it did answer. A spell had a structure, a cost, and a result. It did not demand faith. It could be studied, tested, stolen, and improved. In his youth, Glasya offered him a pact. Dhair refused, recognizing that a gift from an archdevil was still a chain, but he did not sever the connection. Their correspondence became an exchange of secrets, threats, favors, and rare moments of startling tenderness. She gave him a black iron rose pendant during one such moment, and he has carried it ever since, despite knowing that she can see through it. Now a master evoker and a traveler of countless planes, Dhair maintains a criminal contact network that reaches from Baldur's Gate to the infernal courts and stranger places beyond mortal maps. He does not worship power. He intends to understand it, catalogue it, and eventually make every god, devil, and angel irrelevant to his survival.
