Appearance
Tadeo Osei is a lean, broad-shouldered human man with warm brown skin, close-cropped black hair, and a short, carefully kept beard. He stands with his weight slightly forward on the balls of his feet, as if every doorway might open into trouble. His most noticeable habit is the quiet adjustment of his left sleeve, checking the small stitched pocket inside it before he settles into any conversation. He wears practical leather armor beneath a faded soldier's coat, with a red thread tied around one wrist and a plain wooden gaming die hanging from his belt.
Mannerisms
He waits with his weight forward, one foot angled toward the nearest exit. During conversation, he checks the stitched pocket inside his left sleeve, rolls his wooden gaming die across his knuckles, and pauses before answering questions about his military service.
Personality
Quietly observant and dryly funny, Tadeo treats every room like a problem in logistics. He is patient with frightened people, skeptical of grand speeches, and more comfortable doing useful work than receiving praise. He notices who has eaten, who is lying, and which door has the cleanest hinges.
Ideals
Duty. Orders are temporary, but responsibility is not. If I can prevent someone from being abandoned, I must.
Bonds
I carry the names of the soldiers abandoned in the ravine, and I will expose the officer who sold us out.
Flaws
I have trouble obeying anyone who has not earned my trust, and I will risk too much to keep a promise made to someone frightened or powerless.
Quirks
Background
Tadeo Osei enlisted young, not from patriotism but because the army offered steady meals, a roof, and a place where a poor man's careful habits could be mistaken for discipline. He served as a runner, scout, and occasional sentry, learning that battles were usually decided before the first blade was drawn. He remembered supply routes, watched hands instead of faces, and became very good at getting messages, keys, and wounded soldiers through places where they had no business being. His company was abandoned during a retreat after an officer sold their position for a purse of silver. Tadeo survived by leading a handful of soldiers and camp followers through a dry ravine under cover of night. The army called the incident a failure and discharged the survivors without pay. Tadeo kept the officer's marked gaming die as proof of the betrayal, along with the names of those who never made it out. Now he works as a scout, guard, and discreet problem solver. He tells people he left the army behind, but he still counts exits, still checks the road before making camp, and still believes that a promise made to frightened people matters more than an order shouted by someone wearing rank.
