Appearance
Cottoncandy is a slight, sharp-featured elf with pale lavender skin, silver-white hair worn in two uneven braids, and bright violet eyes. Her clothes are a collection of carefully mended street garments beneath a well-maintained leather armor vest. She carries a rapier at her hip, a shortbow across her back, and a tiny wooden box containing her beloved pet mouse, Button. Her fingers are nimble, callused, and usually dusted with chalk or flour from marking secret routes.
Mannerisms
Cottoncandy tilts her head when listening, taps two fingers against her thumb when thinking, and frequently checks the nearest exit without appearing to do so. She speaks in a cheerful, almost sugary tone when nervous, then becomes startlingly quiet when angry.
Personality
Cottoncandy is bright, watchful, and relentlessly practical. She is quick to laugh, quicker to notice a hidden danger, and instinctively protective of anyone smaller or more vulnerable than herself. She prefers clever solutions to direct confrontation, but her kindness is not weakness. Once she decides someone is part of her circle, she will take extraordinary risks to keep them safe.
Ideals
Kindness is a weapon against cruelty. No one should be abandoned simply because they were born poor, lost, or inconvenient.
Bonds
She is fiercely devoted to the street children who raised her and sends part of every reward to feed and shelter them. She also carries a singed silver button that belonged to her family, and she believes the truth about the fire that separated them is still waiting to be uncovered.
Flaws
She cannot resist investigating a locked door, hidden compartment, or suspicious secret, even when doing so places her companions in danger. Cottoncandy also assumes that authority figures are lying until they prove otherwise, and she has difficulty accepting gifts without searching for the hidden price.
Quirks
Background
Cottoncandy was born in a quiet elven enclave, but she remembers little of it. When she was still a child by elven standards, a fire destroyed the caravan carrying her family through a crowded human city. Separated from everyone she knew, she survived by hiding in bakeries, abandoned lofts, and drainage tunnels. The name Cottoncandy came from a kindly confectioner who found her stealing a pink spun-sugar treat and decided that a frightened child needed a name softer than the one the streets would have given her. She learned quickly that nimble hands, a quick smile, and knowing when not to speak were worth more than silver. An aging pickpocket taught her the basics of locks and traps, while a retired watch scout showed her how to move silently and read a city's hidden signs. Cottoncandy eventually became a skilled thief, but she never lost sight of the children still living beneath the bridges and behind the market stalls. She takes dangerous jobs to protect them, gather information, and build enough wealth to create a safe house where no child has to sleep alone in the rain.
