Appearance
A broad-shouldered human with sun-browned skin, strong hands marked by years of farm work and sword practice, and thick dark hair usually tied behind the neck with a strip of red cloth. Their eyes are warm brown and observant. They speak after a brief intake of breath, as if weighing the usefulness of every word, and their voice is low, rounded, and calm. They wear well-maintained chain mail beneath a weathered green surcoat, carry a polished longsword and shield, and keep a carpenter's pencil tucked behind one ear.
Mannerisms
Before answering a difficult question, Kovena takes a measured breath through the nose and looks briefly at the nearest exit. They speak softly even during arguments, polish their shield with the edge of a sleeve, and unconsciously test the weight of any chair before sitting in it.
Personality
Kovena is patient, practical, and quietly formidable. They prefer listening to speeches, watching hands, and asking who will repair the damage afterward. They are kind without being sentimental, brave without enjoying danger, and comfortable letting others take credit if the work gets done. Around strangers, they seem reserved. Around tired laborers, frightened children, and animals, they become unexpectedly gentle and attentive.
Ideals
Balance. No ruler, prophecy, creed, or revolution matters more than the lives caught beneath it. Kovena will oppose tyranny, but they will also oppose anyone who turns justice into an excuse for domination.
Bonds
The people of Brzava Vale raised Kovena, and Kovena will return whenever the valley calls, no matter how distant or dangerous the road. They also carry the wooden handle of their first repaired hammer, a reminder that survival is usually built from small acts repeated faithfully.
Flaws
Kovena distrusts institutions so deeply that they sometimes mistake cooperation for surrender. They can be stubborn about accepting help, and when faced with cruelty, they may stay in a losing fight long after retreat would be wiser. They also have a quiet habit of judging people by how they treat tools, animals, and kitchen workers.
Quirks
Background
Kovena grew up in a farming hamlet where the soil was thin, the winters were long, and every useful object was repaired until it could not be repaired again. Their parents taught them to raise beams, mend fences, judge weather by smell, and settle arguments before they became feuds. Kovena learned the sword later, from a retired caravan guard who saw that their patience and balance were more valuable than raw aggression. The lessons began as protection for the village, but gradually became a discipline of its own, a way to remain steady when frightened people demanded simple answers. When a predatory magistrate tried to seize the hamlet's grain stores, Kovena organized the farmers, millers, and teamsters into a quiet resistance. They redirected wagons, hid families in abandoned lime kilns, and confronted the magistrate's hired soldiers at the old bridge. Kovena won not by killing the most people, but by breaking the formation, disarming the captain, and giving every frightened villager a clear task. The magistrate fled, the grain was returned, and stories of the farmer who fought like a whole company spread beyond the valley. Kovena now travels as a champion for ordinary people, though they distrust banners, grand causes, and anyone who claims that victory excuses needless suffering.
