Appearance
A towering goliath with slate-gray skin marked by pale stone-like patterns, a broad scar across one cheek, and dark braided hair bound with brass rings from a dozen campaigns. He wears practical soldier's gear over a fur-lined harness, carries himself like a veteran, and has the coiled stillness of someone who can turn into a storm without warning.
Mannerisms
He speaks in short, deliberate sentences, then suddenly laughs at a joke only he fully understood. When thinking, he rolls a pebble across his knuckles, and before combat he touches the stone charm at his neck like a private salute.
Personality
Blunt, wary, and unexpectedly thoughtful, Kargan treats most problems like a battlefield, with scouting, patience, and a decisive crash when the moment is right. He is easy to anger but just as easy to win over with honesty, courage, or a well-fought contest.
Ideals
Freedom. No banner, law, or oath is worth more than the right of a warrior to choose his own path. Strength should protect the weak, but never at the price of becoming owned by them.
Bonds
He still keeps the iron token of the captain who taught him how to survive a shield wall, and he believes he owes a debt to every comrade who stood beside him in battle. He also carries a stone charm from his mountain home, wrapped in cord and worn smooth by his thumb, as a promise that he will one day return with enough glory to earn his place in the tales of his clan.
Flaws
He trusts his own judgment more than any chain of command, sometimes ignoring a sensible plan just to prove he can win on instinct. He also has a reckless streak in battle, and when insulted he can be goaded into a fight before he has properly weighed the cost.
Quirks
Background
Kargan Stonewake was raised high in the crags where the wind never stopped singing and every child learned to climb before they learned to lie. He was the youngest and loudest of his hunting band, a goliath whose strength seemed endless but whose mind was always busy with plans, numbers, and impossible questions about the world beyond the mountains. When raiders crossed into his people’s territory, Kargan did not only fight. He studied the raiders’ formations, memorized their habits, and returned with warnings that saved lives. That talent drew the attention of a mercenary captain passing through the passes, who offered him a place in a disciplined company of soldiers.
