Appearance
Thor'gren is a broad-shouldered mountain dwarf with a soot-darkened beard bound in copper rings and a left eyebrow singed away by an early experiment. His heavy scale mail is patched with brass plates, etched with practical runes, and permanently stained by smoke. A tool belt crowded with screwdrivers, clamps, chisels, wire, and powder horns hangs at his waist. He carries a compact light crossbow modified with a reinforced stock, while his eldritch cannon resembles a squat iron bombard covered in glowing dwarven calibration marks.
Mannerisms
Thor'gren taps metal objects three times before trusting them, mutters measurements under his breath, and scratches notes into scraps of leather whenever inspiration strikes. He frequently adjusts his goggles even when they are already straight. When irritated, he speaks to his eldritch cannon as if it were a stubborn apprentice.
Personality
Thor'gren is blunt, methodical, and intensely curious. He respects competence more than rank and considers every problem an engineering challenge waiting for a better design. Although he often appears gruff, he is protective of companions who prove reliable, and he expresses affection by repairing their gear, reinforcing their armor, or quietly adding safety features to their equipment.
Ideals
Progress. Tradition is valuable only when it helps people survive. A craft that cannot adapt is merely a monument to fear.
Bonds
Thor'gren is determined to recover lost dwarven runes and rare metals, then use them to create a weapon worthy of the Kolbrand name. He secretly hopes to return to Djuphall one day and prove that innovation is not betrayal. He also carries a scorched guild medallion belonging to the mentor who first recognized his talent.
Flaws
He cannot leave a mechanism, weapon, or magical device untouched if he believes it can be improved. Thor'gren is stubborn to the point of recklessness, dismisses unfamiliar traditions too quickly, and becomes defensive whenever anyone suggests that his inventions are dangerous. He would rather repair a collapsing bridge than admit he made a mistake.
Quirks
Background
Thor'gren Kolbrand was born beneath the mountains in the eternal foundries of Djuphall, where the Kolbrand family had forged axes and helmets for twelve generations. His kin measured worth in the quality of the work left upon the anvil. Thor'gren agreed with the principle, but not with the limits. Where other dwarves saw a hammer, he saw a firing mechanism. Where they saw a blade, he imagined a device that could send fire across a battlefield. His first invention, a powder-driven club called Slagfist, blew away half his beard and set the guildhall roof alight. The guild was unimpressed, but the accident was not what ended his place among them.
