Robista discovered an important truth during his isolation, a strange connection between living plants, forgotten elven craft, and the animating principles behind magical devices. The exact nature of this discovery is known only to him, and perhaps to whatever force first revealed it.

Appearance
Robista is a lean male elf with weather-darkened skin, long ash-brown hair tied with copper wire, and bright green eyes that rarely seem to focus on the person speaking. His hands are stained with charcoal, plant sap, and metal polish. Years spent outdoors have given him a slightly stooped posture and a habit of resting his weight on one crooked staff while waiting. He wears carefully repaired scale mail beneath a patched leather apron, with tiny tools and labeled vials hanging from every available strap.
Mannerisms
When thinking, Robista taps a rhythm against the nearest metal surface. He labels nearly everything he owns, including stones, cups, and people he expects to meet again. He leans forward when listening, then abruptly looks away when he has reached what he considers the important part of the conversation.
Personality
Robista is genial, observant, and cheerfully intrusive. He asks personal questions with the same tone he uses to ask about a broken hinge. He enjoys clever solutions more than safe ones, but he is not cruel and becomes unexpectedly protective of anyone who treats small creatures, old ruins, or handmade tools with care.
Ideals
Freedom. A clever mind should never be chained to tradition, guilds, authorities, or instructions written by people who are no longer alive.
Bonds
The ruined observatory is the only place where Robista believes he has glimpsed the true relationship between nature and invention. He will risk almost anything to protect it from looters or learn what lies beneath it.
Flaws
Robista treats warnings as invitations to investigate. He is easily distracted by unfamiliar mechanisms, assumes that rules are suggestions, and becomes defensive when someone calls one of his inventions impossible before testing it.
Quirks
Background
Robista was raised among a secluded woodland enclave where elven artisans repaired old irrigation wheels, warding stones, and tools left behind by generations of travelers. He was never a patient craftsman. He preferred taking things apart, replacing pieces with unsuitable materials, and watching what happened when a useful object was given one unnecessary improvement. His curiosity eventually led him to a ruined observatory deep in the forest, where he found a dormant mechanism grown through with roots and covered in symbols that seemed to shift when viewed from different angles. He spent seven years living beside the ruin, surviving on herbs, traps, and the occasional trade with suspicious caravans. During that time, he learned to coax minor magic into ordinary objects, though his creations often behave according to interpretations rather than instructions. The observatory finally began producing a low metallic hum beneath the earth, and Robista decided that isolation had become less useful than investigation. He now travels with a collection of half-finished devices, seeking the source of the hum, the meaning of the root-bound symbols, and anyone reckless enough to test his inventions.
